[VIDEO] Asp Explorer and a Vulture vs a Fer-de-Lance and Imperial Clipper!

Greetings CMDRs,

This was a great 2 vs 2 wing battle! It was my Asp Explorer and Calavero's Vulture vs Thinice's Fer-de-Lance and MrSpoonsi's Imperial Clipper. Props to everyone that took part. It was a blast!

I'm curious as to what everyone's thoughts are on the battle?

Interesting to watch. Not sure why all Multicannons, not sure why you didn't die early and not sure why they weren't using chaff.

Player encounters really do get the blood flowing don't they? I had one a few nights ago, got interdicted in my vulture by a player cobra. I made short work of him, but it was intense. I had to stand up and breathe slowly after lol.

The battle was great but the choice of all MC is highly questionable. MC take FOREVER to get shields down compared to lasers.

ditto and nice fight. I think you used the Power Management to select Shield Cells. Was that to switch on a 2nd one? I've read switching off/on a Shield Booster resets it to full. Use 2 gimballed beams for shields then target PP with those 4 multi-canons as you did. Try to always attack from the rear and avoid head on joisting. Use up/down/sideways thrust to get around them. If its a stale mate chasing tails turn then use some down thrust then some up to break the angle and get advantage of seeing his roof for a bigger target (handy for Rails).
If you are the one being chased then try Flight Assist OFF and turn 180degress, then boost and fire, fast turn 50%, get on their six.
You'll make Top Gun some day - just keep breathing. If you get angry you have already lost the fight.
It looks like your monitor is in Game Mode. This decreases Gamma and gets too much colour for Orange. But with same mode try these colours (either in Graphics Override or Game Folder)
<MatrixRed> 0, 0.5, 1 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0, 0.8, 0 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 1, 0, 0 </MatrixBlue>
Then just disable UI settings in the Graphics>Settings to rid old orange effects on the pop up HUD Panels.

If I was in a more nimble ship, your tactics would make sense. However, when flying a ship that is as slow and easy to hit as the Asp Explorer, my tactics shown in the video make more sense. Especially while under fire by multiple CMDRs at one time, it is complete stupidity to run anything less than 4 pips to shields. In order to even make an attempt to adhere to your tactics, I would of had to sacrifice toughness and sustained damage capability by diverting pips into engines. My builds prioritize being as tough as possible, which is why I'm not afraid to joust with bigger ships that cost multiple times what mine do. I appreciate your insight and it gave me an idea of how you would of flown this fight differently. However, I'm not sure that your approach would have worked as well as mine proved to in this instance.

I use a 23'' IPS Panel that is color calibrated correctly. You're seeing the game on your display that has an obvious difference in calibration and color reproduction. Nonetheless, I will experiment with the color settings you gave and appreciate the heads up. On second thought, the "...old orange effects..." you're talking about, could be because I have maximized my HUD brightness in game.

Not sure why all Multicannons

The battle was great but the choice of all MC is highly questionable. MC take FOREVER to get shields down compared to lasers.

Using all multi-cannons gives me the ability to outfit my ship for ultimate toughness, while dealing sustained damage.

not sure why you didn't die early

I didn't die early because I had 4 pips to SYS whenever I was under fire.

not sure why they weren't using chaff.

Perhaps, they decided they would be better off with extra boosters? Sometimes, I don't run chaff for that reason. Had they decided to run chaff, I don't believe the outcome would of been any different. I actually love it when CMDRs use chaff against me. It gives me a reason to use my gimballed multi-cannons as fixed weapons and still maintain damage. And if my weapons capacitor is drained enough, I'll usually wait out the chaff with a lock maintained. That way, when the chaff dissipates, I have all 6 multi-cannons ready to fire at full effect.

What I noticed was, they didn't really seem to be focusing on you, had they been, they could have been done with you quickly enough. Had they had chaff, it would have made it much harder for you to hit with all 6 multicannons at all times. They seemed to be more occupied with the Vulture the whole time. Sure, you had a decent tank, but the Vulture is also very tanky and very maneuverable, you on the other hand are a boat when it comes to maneuvering and a bigger target. You likely could have been killed much faster than the Vulture and even though the Vulture is a bigger threat due to large weaponry, it's harder to kill in general, especially for ships bigger than it since it can spend a lot more time in their blind spots. Getting rid of you quickly would have left him by himself, leaving one of them to tank him while the other shot him down.

I'm confident had they been better with their tactics and perhaps with fittings, the fight would have been different. Gimbals are subject to less damage due to the tracking advantage, taking that tracking advantage away is a big deal when you don't get the damage of fixed weaponry.

On the other hand, in this situation, had you not gone all multicannons, you guys could have won the fight sooner since you were able to stay on either one of them for so long without even taking any damage. The Vulture was doing the tanking either via shield or maneuvering. There's no reason why the Vulture would be unable to stay on the Clipper with you so you both should have been able to eliminate him rather quickly. There's many ways this could have gone down, but due to tactics and loadouts, they got away after having killed your buddy.

For anyone interested in watching the video, the shield cells run out at 2:30 or so.

Personally I think a six cannon loadout would have been better than a six multi-cannon.

Yep, I do too. Especially with all the time he spent close to the enemy.

Mafia has used 6 cannon load out with good results, see his videos. Probably switched to multi canons cause ammo last longer and does more D.O.T.
Fly an ASP as well with similar load out with 2 beam lasers & 4 multi cannons. going to give 6 multi cannons a go.

Flying ASP heavy is a bit of a trick as I"m learning to fly F/A off & timing boosts crucial to PVP. Love the vids Mafia ,learned a few tricks +1 rep

Cheers!

@OP.

Do you record your vids while working out on a treadmill?

What's with the heavy breathing?
Last i checked most people sat on their backside on a chair while gaming.
