Factions now ruined? What has happened?

I disappeared for a couple of months, having continuously played ED since beta 1. Finally got my 4k rig setup and OMG, what has happened. Feel like I've left the kids at home for a few hours only to return to a total mess.
Was hoping I could pledge to a faction and not a political party.

Are all faction now at civil war with each other? Hudson appears to be invading other federal systems that are not in a 'civil war' state. Strange.
Also the bugs, my gawd. Was the whole beta updates before release idea scrapped or something? game is riddled with 'em. Can't even do any faction missions anymore. I just wanna be a recruit so my RPing can begin.
Anybody else in the same boat?

Bugs have been discussed many times already. There were bugs from the Beta that FD knew about before release and released the update without fixing them. The testing period lasts a week and only allows a select amount of people to participate which is counter productive to effective testing.

There are tons of different threads complaining about different problems. FD will fix them eventually. Unlike Passenger transport because why bring a reason to buying the Orca when you can fight for political leaders.

Powerplay is the reason for passenger transport. You will be transporting faction delegates and ambassadors, just give it time

It doesnt make much sense. I'm being attacked by ships of other factions for supporting a different faction which doesnt seem to be illegal anymore. Its open season for no good reason. The new crime system is overly complicated along with PP, and I have little idea of what my goals are.

The Orca is meant for grief ramming people at stations...

But, seriously yeah.

It is really questionable game development to release a ship without any way to fulfill it's Raison d'être.

I wouldn't be so sure, the orca does well as a pirate ship, and I do see several commanders use the orca for this purpose

I'm totally lost as to what is going on with the faction side of things also. Been plodding away for a couple of months doing missions etc, My faction was sitting nicely at around 75% influence, within two days they've gone down to 2% and the others have barely moved.

Ok, thought I, maybe it's because I'm in solo and the open people maybe are hammering the system, but no, Galnet reports that things are booming and even mention my faction. The tab on the right says things are booming for them also. I dunno, since power play kicked in the 'Risk" analogy seem pretty close.
The disconnect that people mention with regards to 'doing things' seems even worse.

My only conclusion is that middle aged space enthusiasts are a dismal bunch

Well, I don't think the game is "ruined!" but "Broken!" and "Nerfed!" pretty much sum up what's happened with the introduction of 1.3.

I don't think my post had any vitriol in it or lack of understanding as to what the game mechanic should be. However, surely something is happening in my outlined case that is curious to say the least. Maybe I should have started a separate thread.

I had the same question as Dubbers. I was sitting at 46 Rep with Mother Gaia in Sol, flying only missions for them or Federation trades and in 2 weeks I'm down to 11. Someone suggested I needed to log in each day as apparantly we now get penalised for having a life outside this game by way of Rep loss. but logging in each evening hasn't kept my rep.
So, a perfectly reasonable question, but now I fully expect to get shouted down by the fan-boys and get blamed because I don't know enough about the hidden, unexplained game mechanics and because I'm a numpty.
Still, at least I'll make someone feel good who can demonstrate their superior knowledge without actually helping

Gotta love the arrogance. The game is perfect and anyone who says other wise just doesn't understand man. I don't think the game is ruined. But broken and nerfed is pretty accurate for 1.3.
