should you report players that block docking bays?

Working as intended and not an actual offence so your report will obviously be ignored. If you don't like the current choices available in the game for dealing with this (going solo, waiting, docking somewhere else etc.) then the logical course of action is a feature request for idle players IMO (which might be a good idea actually), not reporting the player for taking up space.

if the player actually is afk, left his seat, he has to live with the consequences, too. i'm a pirate/smuggler. so, it actually fits me, lore wise. it's not like you don't get punished if you open fire at an outpost. i took quite a lot of damage. i think it's actually unfair to give players immunity from other players while docked. i actually did get attacked by an npc while docked once, and i actually did get damage.

not really an optimal solution. forced to go solo isn't optimal either. something should change imho.

The problem is if you allow them to be destroyed by players while on the pad it would allow griefers another way to act.. They would see you dock and ram or shoot you in sidewinders til you die and lose your expensive ship while they barely risk anything

Some folks go a.f.k. If he was on a pad it wasnt too cool but atleast legal. Trying to shoot him was VERY uncool and illegal. Interdicting traders just to be annoying is also uncool but, I quess after tring to shoot someone docked and a.f.k., being annoying and uncool is familar and comfortable to some. Shakes head...... and some people wonder why others play mostly solo.

Ha! Cruddy game mechanics.

Sometimes I will land, leave the game for a minute and then get sidetracked by real life. Some time later I have been hogging an Outpost landing pad for over an hour!

Maybe ships should automatically be taken into the hanger after a given amount of time.

This is a strange one, I say this because I was denied docking at an outpost at the first request, I am flying a Python
so require the medium pad, I know where it is as I have used it dozens of times, I get closer and there is an Asp so I wait
eventually it disappears down into the hanger, I hang around for a minute or two but the lights on the pad go out, the Asp
does not leave, I request docking permission this time it is accepted and the same pad lights up and I land, I suggest from this that
docking must be instanced, and you can land even if there is a ship in the hanger

ED is like truckers in space. And as a trucker i can tell you that I've had to do my fair share of knocking on other drivers doors to get them to move out from a dock. I'm never happy about it. It shows that they only care about themselves. They want to get all there crap in order before leaving instead of doing the proper thing and pulling away from the dock, parking it, and then doing whatever they need to do and free up the space for someone else.

In real life I can knock on their doors and ask them to move.
I can call up their company and complain about them.
The ship/receiver can call up their company and complain about them.
If they continue to sit there and ignore everyone because maybe they've lost their minds or maybe they left their truck and went somewhere. The shipper/receiver can call and have that truck towed.

In ED the only options to you are.

Wait there.
say something to them over comms and hope they aren't AFK and understand your language.
Switch instance.
Wait there and see if they return and then ram them to death to give them an idea of your displeasure.

I can't call up the local tow company and have the clowns ship moved. I can't complain to the company they work for. I can't complain to the station.

And to the rest of you saying "tough nuggets just deal with it." I say tough nuggets to you, you can deal with it when i run you over.

Do you just enjoy being confrontational and antagonistic? This isn't real life...it's a game...and it's not your livelihood on the line, it's virtual credits. And there's a ridiculously easy and effective workaround...

If your time was as precious as your absurd overreaction would indicate, I find it hard to believe you'd waste it getting angry and plotting revenge. You seem like you just go through life looking for things to get mad about. That being the case, you should actually be thanking people for giving you something to get worked up over so you can feel alive.

so? there are consequences for not being cool. you get fines, you get a bounty. and you? you loose some cargo, maybe pay insurance. that's the game. if you don't like it, or if you can't handle it, play solo. your choice. but plz don't complain. there are pirates and murderers in this galaxy. it's all part of the game. or do you see me complain when i get interdicted by a master clipper? no, i eat the damage and get ... out .

People sometimes AFK. While perhaps not considerate, i don't think there is anything wrong with it from a rule standpoint.
There is no rule against that but yes it is very inconsiderate. People should not need rule to stop being dumb. I mean, if you are AFK you move to solo or even close the game, it doesn't take hours to re-open the game.
I think it should be reported. Not to get the player punished, but so that FD can see whether it is a clear tendency and whether action (whatever it is) should be taken.

Also from an immersion/reality standpoint, actually it makes sense. When the captain of a ship is at the space bar his ship doesn't simply vanish until he returns.
Their are a lot of things that make sense from an immersion standpoint. That does not mean we want them in the game. Otherwise it would take hours to repair/outfit a ship, hours to move from one ship to another one. And most of all we would have only one life before them game erases itself. So how good is immersion? ;)

Lol dude get over it. It's a simple and effective fix. Like stupidly simple.

Should I shoot someone on the parking place near the supermarket because I can't find a nearby place for MY car ? Nonsense. That's life.

So your point is because you should not kill a person in real life he should not shoot a digital ship in a video game? That's a compelling argument...

i'm currently on a mission that required me to travel quite a bit. 30k-40k ls to an outpost. once arrived, i tried to get docking permission. "permission denied". flew around a bit, saw a player type-6 docked. messaged him: "i would appreciate if you hurry". no respond, as usual. cool, i've got another mission 120 ls away. finished it, came back. the same commander still docked. k. now, i did two things i never do: shoot within the no fire zone and shoot a player. unfortunately, players seem to be immune when docked and attacked by other players. station started to fire, obviously, and i got away (with my new ASP) with 40% hull.

i did actually report this player for blocking a docking bay. whether this will have consequences or not is not up to me but i thought i just give it a try. i can't really do anything else about it. i wonder how long it would take for the game to disconnect you if you block a docking bay. if this happens at all.

do you have an opinion on that? should you report players that block docking bays? should there be a game mechanic that frees up docking space if it's occupied for too long?

Kindergarten

You seem like another individual that's been lurking too long in the forums. Please consider taking a break and not being so "antagonistic".

Why so butthurt? It's in the game that pads can be occupied, just as there are pirates and murderers and you can be interdicted by a master clipper (your very own words!). Best you just suck it up as being the way that things are.

Stop being so petty by reporting and attempting to damage the player's ship! RP or not that's a move, and most definitely not cool.

Maybe not, I am with the OP here. I came across a player that had undocked from the pad but not flown off, he just sat there and never moved so what can I do? nudge him and risk a fine, shoot him? Why should I have to log into solo and then back into open just because some guy thinks its funny that I can't land?
.
If the player is docked then he is docked and he can take as long as he wishes and I don't have an issue with that, but to launch and allow the pad release then just sit there is not very considerate.

I'm pretty sure you can't sit hovering above a pad forever. Once you undock, there is a timer that counts down. I haven't waited to see what happens when it expires, however I assume its increasing fines the longer you sit there

Lol musta hit pretty close, I guess.

Maybe i should waste time raging at an easily fixed problem, thereby wasting even more time than the original problem would have wasted.

Others herr have made the "well in real life..." arguments...I think robberer's comment was showing how silly that was.

I have to ask, are you even sure it's a player? I have observed that NPC's are the ones that like to sit on the pad and not enter the hanger. Seems to me all this rage about afk players is really rage about npc's being npc's, an annoyance in any game.

Why rage at all? We're simply trying have a conversation about an issue in the game. The personal attacks aren't needed, necessary or wanted. I'd ask you to stop but I don't think you can. So I've asked for outside help.

So its in cold blood and not in a rage that you plan to "run over" those who dare take up your parking spot in a game? And since I dare disagree, you report me or something?

Seriously dude...take a break...

It's not that you disagree. It's how you disagreed. I don't have to tolerate personal attacks from you or anyone else on the forums. And frankly, if you can't tell the difference between generally disagreeing, staying on topic with the discussion and making personal attacks then you have no business posting.
