ED XBO Beta available to XBox One Preview today

It's probably just a cheap marketing trick to try and get more XBox people to buy into it. Also to encourage PC players to buy the XBox version - people thinking they'll get a leg up for when it hits PC.

Looks crap anyway, I'll play Eve Valkyrie for this - a game designed from the ground up around VR and frag festing. Like the Risk addon, sorry "Powerplay", I'll just ignore it within the ED universe.
I hope it's a one-time deal to rope in Xbox users and that this isn't a new trend. If, say, Xbox users get planetary landings weeks in advance before PC players, I'll be pretty angry.

I think the $5 coupon that you can use, only on the FrontierStore, AFTER you've already purchased the game for Xbox, is a pretty lame offer for PC players. Sorry but it just is. I would have considered double-dipping on Xbox for a 50% discount, but a coupon that I can use only AFTER I've bought the game again? Ugh.

This CQC thing is certainly a way to draw in the console crowd.
They play games like COD, GoW, Halo... all those twitch based shooters... they are known well for consoles, and a lot of players specifically have consoles for that sort of gameplay.

It's a real shame Frontier are capitulating, and are changing the core aspects of the game to suit the need for console players.

I suppose one benefit is, more console players, more sales, more development.
But it's really sad that they have to go down this route.

Ever think that maybe they aren't pandering to your perceived lowest common denominator and FD legitimately believes they are creating a worthwhile game mode for all user bases?

Very pleased to hear about CQC and that Xbox owners can join our merry band.

Ashamed for the elitist snobs and squealing 'me me me' kiddywinks who make up a significant proportion of this forum.
I'll be honest here, while I don't and never will own an XBox, I have no issue with Elite Dangerous being on that or any other platform so long as the game is equal and fair for all platforms at all times

In other words, if XBox is getting a feature like CQC, then it should be on PC as well at the same time.

I think it looks great, even if I'm not interested. It will help them sell copies to consoles games, which means more money, and more funds for expansions.

PC will get their cookies too.

More money for frontier to develop ED. More players. Really don't see the issue.

So what if Xbox players get a arena bit before PC players, i as a PC player not interested in playing the CQC much, but I know a lot of people that have an Xbox where it would appeal...

It looks fantastic....CQC looks just like the racetrack that I've been hoping for. Structures and tight spaces to zoom in and out of in an Eagle. Nice.

CQC certainly looks like a lot of fun.

Hopefully we'll have class-limited competitions...all Eagles or all vipers etc....not just a big free-for-all. And a big free-for-all.

My outrage at this depends on how long it's exclusive. A week, not too bad, can handle that, a few months I'm seriously annoyed, 6 months+ I'm disgusted.

For all user bases?

So you are jumping to the conclusion that every single player wants this sort of gameplay?
News for you, they don't.

Fact is, Elite at it's core is being ripped apart. They are adding instant action... something that doesn't fit the lore, or the game at all.
It's just opening the game for the masses.

Fair enough they want more players, and I can accept that. I'm just saying that the core Elite experience is slowly dying, making room for mechanics that will appeal to new console players.

It's hardly a worth while game mode, when there are some serious problems with the game in it's current state that need to be resolved.

But whatever.. .really. I'm not going to argue about it. Some people are looking forward to it, great for them. I won't get in their way and tell them not to.
I'm just disappointed that FD decided to take this route.

Especially with giving Xbox players a first look at this new game mode, when PC is the lead development platform.

They'll probably use that to launch the PS4 version - ship it with exclusive planetary landings first. Cheap marketing ploy.

All of you guys who don't understand the console world should stop and rethink. Being on Xbox requires games to have DLC. It is part of the deal game designers sign when they go on a console. It will usually be maps, side quests or gimmicks. Sometimes it can be something really worthwhile. But fact is it is part of the way things work. The day FD signed up for Xbox that was always on the cards. But it is no reason to get upset, infact it is a good thing because it garuntees there will be more releases for ED which can only be a good thing. Who cares if some of it comes out first on Xbox? Are we realy all babies on here? I am a beta backer. I couldn't care less if they get some stuff first. As long as there is cool stuff coming down the line I am willing to put up with that. It brings a huge market to the game and means the game may grow more and last longer than if we did not have it.

Sometimes that is just the way it is. But the world isn't ending :)
