PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

I was enjoying the video until I watched a ship pass through a ring, and next scene dropped some type of exploding powerball.
I immediately thought of those mario racing games my son used to play, that's when my suspended disbelief hit a wall.
Are the ranking missions fixed yet?

I'm sorry but could you clarify? Does that mean you intend to continue with the PC as the primary development platform(i.e new features will be beta tested on PC), there will be simultaneous development on PC and consoles/new platforms(new features appear on both at the same time for testing and release), there will be some kind of asynchronous development(where some features are tested/released on Pc first and others on other platforms) or the consoles will become the primary dev platform?

It will vary. The PC is the lead development platform so most content or features would appear there first - CQC is an exception to this simply because it fits the Xbox audience so well. Some content would need to be kept in lockstep so would be released simultaneously.

I have seen whole games ripped apart by the arena mode.

It killed WAR which killed Mythic when EA closed it down. In the WAR beta test Mythic had to keep on closing the areans due to nobody testing anything else and when the game went live you would just see people in the towns waiting for their arena to start.

Something similar happened in WoW where we had an entire section of out guild who would just do the arenas and not bother with anything else.

I predict that the arena play will concentrate the Xbox One playerbase to deathmatches and you won't see many out in the wild.

A Space Sim is a Space Sim no matter the Plattform, what Plattform a game runs on does not mean anything for the Genre or the Game itself. Its just a freakin Plattform the Game runs on.

I don't understand People, all that silly Console war and PC Master Race crap is so stupid. People who play on Consoles are Gameres just like you and me and Consoles are just as good to play Games on as the PC is, there is no superiority for any side.

Because games are far more limited by consoles. For instance, Wings are limited to 4 because of consoles, while a variable wing size would be infinitely better. You can go far farther and have a much more complicated game system on PC because of the power behind it and superior control interfaces.

I think the arena model looks really interesting, and I'll be glad when its available on PC.

And, you've got to be realistic. MS are giving FD money for exclusive content for ED on XBox. More money for FD means a better overall game. Hopefully FD will be able to balance the investment so it doesn't just go into arena/xbox improvements.

We've always said that we will look at other platforms after the PC and Mac release and of course we want to be successful on every platform we support. That includes continued development on PC as well as moving onto new platforms like the Xbox One.

you also (as developers) said ingame beta testing would also not be limited to a single platform.. my question to you sir is this..

Is CQC xbox one exclusive (even as part of that preview system they just announced) or will their be a beta testing phase on pc/mac also at the same time as the trailer seems to indicate that XB1 players get that first only.

*edit nvm you already answered that though thinking that element would fit xbox audiences is stretching it as you could release a CQC demo for the other platforms to replace or augment the tutorial single player demo and effectively get your pc/mac beta test from that also and since XB1 gamers all get to test that it would also make it fair to all players as well (not just the Alpha/ beta backers who have been screaming to get involved in with for a while now)

Can't see what all the moaning is about myself. Looking forward to giving it a go myself. Does it really matter to your life that xbox one users get to beta test it first. Not in my eyes.

Gives me more time to play the game while someone else tests it.

will CQC use peer2peer connections on PC?

i really appreciate an answer for this one. really hope that CQC uses client/server architecture.

It does not seem likely they would make a separate netcode just for PC and Arena mode. Xbox is highly likely to use P2P, as peer to peer has less problems in closed platforms (cheating is much harder, besides pulling the plug that is). But lets wait and see what it turns out to be.

Quick access is what I am after, for a quick blast on a level playing field. Tournaments are a great idea. I hope it goes to team play arenas as well. Not so keen on travelling, if I want to play this, I want to have quick access.

So do you pay to beta test a game, helping to fix bugs....or play new content first?

Well, I've been disgruntled since powerplay got released. But all I'm smelling is the greedy meat hooks of Microsoft Corporate dropping enough money on Frontier that they're in the pocket.

Why do i have a feeling CQC is just a copy of Battle arena of Star citizen... SC did it to test things before the actual game... but what is its purpose in ED ?
