Can the beta-backers have a little private meeting?

It's stopped all the complaining about PowerPlay :)

Yes in the same way dropping the bombshell over single player stopped worries over lack of gamma content. :D
.
Anyway, seriously, if this gives 'em more money to continue development then as long as we get that development, all's good surely? (Assuming some of that development is missing DDA/DDF features... naturally :D )

This has already been dealt with when the XBox One release announcement was made. The two worlds will be separate but in a shared galaxy. The non-XBox version will not be going client server as it would lock out the Mac version as Microsoft doesn't support that in heir ecosystem. When the PS4 version appears (eventually) it will have yet another set of servers as Sony don't really like others to play on their servers either. (Few exceptions of some PC only games.)

So, shared galaxy, Balkanised player instances.

We will see how this will proceed. I believe that ED in its various flavours (open,solo,group,pp,qcq,...) can only survive as a multiplayer game (mmo or whatever). A multiplayer game depends on the numbers of players online. And this can only be achieved if the servers are sharing the world. So its not a matter of micosoft or sony server. All of them have the same goal: getting more players by having lots of players already online. There is no gain in having ps4-sony-servers for ps4 players only.

If this would be road, it would be the holy grail for all of us. Consider: combat logging solved because of client-server architecture, persistant universe on the servers, way more possibilities for deep content and player generated content. All this would be much less a problem as it is now. Even for the solo-players nothing would be changing for them. Its still easy to filter them out and let them not see any others, and still they are in the same universe, like it is now.

I think its not really an argument that the lack of communication has always been a problem. Even so - I might have been able to sustain blind faith last year. Its not really possible now for me after so much disillusionment :(

Honestly, play something else and wait for the game to be finished. We were sold a game that would be in constant development. This is development. Piecemeal additions of small and big content parts, with subsequent changes to how those parts interact and players receive them. Playing a game in development is hard as the rule sets, game play, etc. can all change as new insights are gained from watching players play. I do not live with blind faith, particularly with game developers. I play a game until it stops providing me with enjoyment. I always suggest the same to anyone else.

Never understood Timed exclusives. If Microsoft gives some Money for that then thats great! I wouldn't waste my Money like that if I where MS, but hey they have enough of it and FD can need it.

As for me as a player - what in the World does that matter? I get the Content. Now or bit later I couldn't care less, don't plan to die in the near future.

1. We paid more than retail to alpha/beta test.
2. xbox users are paying less than retail to beta test.
3. We already have an experienced pvp community with hundreds of hours of flight time who are better suited to give feedback on a pvp module.
4. We didn't want the arena module to start with because we've been crying out for content and hoped fd would be putting their time in to new content rather than an arena module. Since they didn't put the time in to content for the main game (stuff from the ddf etc) we feel entitled to have access to it as for a lot of payers we feel like we're in limbo right now waiting for fixes or promised content.
5. 1.3 breaks some of the pvp roles so a lot of players are looking for something to do until fd fix it. Tons of reported bugs from the beta bug forum are still in the game.
6. A lot of us think the 1.3 release was half baked due to them working on the E3 release (see 5).

^^^ This, right here. THIS!

People have to realize that the gameplay that is interactive is the gameplay that is shared in the galaxy. NOT the proximity of one player to another. The BGS is a huge PvP arena! Systems are won and lost based on how many PvE goals are accomplished by those fighting for either side. The same with CG's. The same with PP. If you do not like this thought...do not walk, run from this game as quickly as you can. Everything competitive within this game is going to be based on how many PvE widgets are going to be collected by which 'side'.

For me personally an arena mode in any shape or form is pretty close to ragequit material. Let me explain why:

over the last few years, there's been a fairly popular Freelancer mod server around. At one point, using a code plugin and some inventive modding, they added an arena equivalent. It was ok for a while, but while the game's galaxy expanded with a largely constant playerbase, people would often chose to fight there instead of looking for RP or emergent gameplay elsewhere.

And at this point, the server can't really afford to remove the arena, since the majority of the active players frequent it for no better (though understandable) reason, than to reliably find something to do in the game within a reasonable time since logging in.

I couldn't care less about PP or CQC.
I would like to see the game I backed being developed instead of watching it get systematically abandoned. The house we were sold is not being furnished, the money we spent is funding creating toys for neighbours kids.
I want the neighbours kids to have nice toys of course. I also feel a bit rubbish that my the house I invested in has been abandoned. An explanation would provide some clusure but no. Only some other voices on the forum to indicate that I am not an isolated unreasonable old guy.

Go play X3 Terran Conflict, and see if your PC can handle huge naval battles in space.

Have done already and PC copes fine. Given that the battles shown in the trailer are for Xbox one and my PC is far beyond the Xbox shouldn't have that much trouble. Plus it would actually give all those i7 cores something to do as not many if any games use modern multi core processors at anything like their full potential.

Problem Is there are many here who also think you ARE being unreasonable. Its now gotten to the point where there is a huge division in opinion regarding the vision of this game and it will only get bigger.

The sad thing is, I'm no longer convinced even FD know what it ought to be. The directions that development seems to go in seem to be quite arbitrary to me, no real focus on an end goal :(

I think everything since December has been specifically building the Xbox game with the sales of the PC version. The majority of added mechanics seem ideal console material. This is and always has been the plan in my opinion

CQC is a badly needed addition but will inevetable not be integrated in to the universe and end up being a shallow console arcade side show.

And yeah, any furniture that is in the house is being burned to keep us warm. Elite: Betrayal

Public companies are in it for the profit nothing else. There is no profit in appeasing us, the customers that already paid. This is why a subscription model would have been better.

huh?
What are you running, a c64? why wouldn't a pc be able to handle mass naval battles in space? Especially my pc :)
Id be more worried about the xbox. MY kids bring that thing to a crawl just playing infinity.

I'm gonna go with A. This game has so much that was broken by 1.3 and hasn't been resolved (been on the bug page lately?), and instead of resolving said issues, they've been developing some exclusive arena commander mode for another system. I thought Xbox was going to join our universe and then FD would be developing for all of us, not this dinky with an arcade mode. Also, didn't Braben say this game would never be an arcade mode? If that's true, why are they taking development/bug fixing power AWAY from the game in order to develop and release ARCADE MODE?

Entitlement Level: Elite.

Have all the meetings you want, it won't change the direction FDev is going, its a lost battle since the offline mode was gone.

They are listening to the community, for sure... you can see with each update, but they are also making their own game....

and its time to accept that.
