PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

I'd like quick access myself. I am a 100% solo player for normal ED but would happily spend a lot of time in an arena if it means I am not going to lose anything in "normal" play (e.g. wont lose my ship, wont lose credits etc)

I think the arena model looks really interesting, and I'll be glad when its available on PC.

And, you've got to be realistic. MS are giving FD money for exclusive content for ED on XBox. More money for FD means a better overall game. Hopefully FD will be able to balance the investment so it doesn't just go into arena/xbox improvements.

You are right about realism, but FD do keep changing the rules of the game... If you are an Alpha backer who was under the impression that you would continue to have first access to new content you have a right to question this move.
Personally I figured once Alpha was over that was it in terms of exclusivity but then Beta was sold on the back of the exclusivity promise... Test the new features before they go onto the main server.

Now we have xbox timed exclusives which are only accessible in the short term if you buy the game again. Realism is all well and good but you can't keep moving the goalposts and not expect a reaction.
Does it matter in the infinite scheme of things? No. Are there more important thing in life to worry about? Of course. But realism also involves perspective and from my perspective a timed xbox exclusive is not in the spirit of what was promised at PC Beta level.

And to those who are saying this is a different game... That is not realistic in the least.

Taking into account it is a trailer and look at how well our trailer represented game play, maybe the consoles are a good thing because more game play options is a good thing. The CQC has several potential huge positive aspects for mission play. That sort of game play is what missions need, not blow up x pirates in a USS. The CQC competition is a good idea.

What I also got from the trailer was the large fleet battles with cruisers/carriers. If we don't get this on PC then I will be raging, I am not sure how the P2P networking will manage this, for the consoles they have Xbox live and PSN to use which has some huge advantages for this sort of thing.

It will vary. The PC is the lead development platform so most content or features would appear there first - CQC is an exception to this simply because it fits the Xbox audience so well. Some content would need to be kept in lockstep so would be released simultaneously.

So... entertain the consoleboys by introducing them to the joys of beta testing while the good stuff is still being worked on elsewhere? I'm fine with that.

As an aside though, I'm still not sure Elite really needs an arena combat mode, seeing as you already introduced one barely a week ago.

I greatly question the popularity of Elite: Dangrous on Xbox One. My guess is that the console player bases will never exceed the PC player base.

Just a confident hunch (even if a bit hopeful).

I think having these arenas could work and add fun AND immersion to the Elite galaxy.

They are only separate for the duration of the xbox early access period if I understood things correctly.

However, I am very dissapointed if this was their big E3 reveal. :/

Why do so many people categorise PvP with console gaming?

hey Mr brooks said that in an indirect way (no offence Mr Brooks), not us :) otherwise this would be an augment of the turoial single player demo as well like a player vs npc trail with full areana PVP later on in the full game once finilised..

That's the problem. "Sometime in the future" means PC development has been slowed for the sake of pushing exclusive content out onto the Xbone to try and give players an incentive to buy it.

But I'll bet their 5 pounds discount or whatever it is for the Xbone game will DEFINITELY sooth over any rough feelings with people who've dropped enough into this game in its early stages to buy both games.
