The Powerplay discussion thread.

Definitely seems more like what I was hoping PP was going to be. You are not alone.

Unfortunately, I feel these unrelated tacked on meta games are the future of ED judging by how pleased FD seem to be with PP and now the arena stuff

To each his own i guess. Politics is the main reason i play it. Nothing wrong with your idea, but to me... too much combat here, combat there to make it the basement of powerplay. Still, makes up for some nice ideas in case there might be a war in the future. If i were FD, i would definetly think about some of your points for such events.

Thanks for the input, I tried not to make it sound too combat oriented, there could be many alternatives next to combat in order to help one side or the other, but for the combat players I wanted it to be very specific as it is a big part of the game. I didn't go into detail for the minor factions either and there would be some political immersion involved here, as well as the majors just not the focal point.

Couple of things to add, there would be significant love to the smugglers in this mode including some serious pirate missions.

I think powerplay rocks ed is a good dev im sure they will improve it they been fixing lot of things since alpha when i backed.

I think people need to cut FD some slack.

One thing we know can happen is that NPC ship AI can be told to attack targets.

How hard would it be to code the security vessels surrounding stations to instantly attack and destroy any containers around the station? And for that matter how hard would it be for the stations own defenses to destroy the cargo?
It probably wouldn't be hard to do, but would it be worth it to do? It would be abused by smugglers who were about to get caught, or pirates who are wanted and want to sneak into the station. Drop some cargo and watch the cops ignore you to shoot at it.

Agreed so much potential yet so much disconnect.

Sorry but minecraft, good as it is, is one huge grind fest. Mining x number of diamonds to build just one macerator(ic2) was/is a grind. Sure you can build machines to mine for you but you had to grind hard to build just one machine. Not to mention the repetitive nature of the components.

It's also not very good without mods. Mods made that game what it is, not the developer.

You blow up a 100 of Patreu's ships, and strangely it makes not one bit of difference? Hmmm... Doesn't sound very fair or dynamic to me... Almost just feels a bit like a bunch of mini-games don't you think?

And in the case of PP, all these mini-games just mean loads of points being added up, with the team with most points "winning". I believe here's a video of a Powerplay proto-type from many years ago (shame some of the depth, team work and fun didn't make it to ED) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEVaI_6yPug&t=55m48s :)

Who's to say it isn't on the way?

If people truly have no faith that things are coming, I don't understand why they are here.

Just tie it in to the despawn timer. If it's not despawned after it's normal timer has ended then send security to shoot it.

I think powerplay is epic im sure they will innovate and balance rewards and such but its awesome.

I think they should take the idea even further where they have clans that are like army's a squadron system for larger wings to make battles more epic.

Then add really insane powerplay missions to kill rival fleets.

AS a start powerplay really adds life and depth to the game i really enjoy it.

As said, nothing wrong with the idea at all. To me its just a bit to combat or war oriented to be a basement. If theres ever going to be a real war, i would most certainly like it. Can even picture myself bringing troops to the frontlines while under heavy fire at times. To make it a really great experience however, FD will have to develop more stuff - like a passenger system and such. But the mere thought, fire everywere and you sitting in your dropship / clipper / whatever floats your boat, hot dropping troops where they are most dearly needed... one can still dream eh? :)

Maybe it is... Hopefully it is... But it's an odd direction to go to get there. ie: To get to more depth, variety and emergent game play, you go via a pseudo-board game orchestrating the same mini-game grind mechanics already in the game?

Glad you're enjoying it... I managed to do this half a dozen times before losing the will to carry on. Where's the depth or fun? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qm5WQwfcoGc

There's really little/no subtly or intelligence in it, just groups of people grinding at mini-games to see who can fill their bucket up the most.

Anyhoo... Can't please us all I guess.

Explain to my why you believe that those who do not like power play were subject to cognitive bias and those who said they do like it were not. You cannot just say because cognitive bias exists, it both affected this poll and affected it against power play specifically.

What I'm trying to say is that the set up of the poll itself supports a variety of biases. Basically formulated in such a way that a negative result is much more likely when assuming the entire population would be strictly neutral on the matter at hand.

Whether the sample size is relevant or not does not matter. You cannot try to "maths" yourself out of a badly formulated poll. Well, actually you can try to, it just won't hold any weight.

A solution might be to have canisters bundle together when dropped. Making it like 10 canisters per stack or something. Reduces the time to pick everything up, reduces the numbers of items in the instance, and increases profits for pirates by decreasing pick up time.

I like the idea of no dropping cargo around stations and outposts just simply can't do it period. If your killed while hauling illegal goods near a station the cargo vaporizes along with your ship. If trader can haul x amount of tons then a pirate can try to steal x amount of tons.

your idea is quite similar to the faction warfare system you find in Eve online, and even if i enjoyed playing that very much its a quite static system that is designed to go on forever.
while players can take over star systems their influence to the story is minimal and after awhile it just feels like a giant game of ping pong in space whit little meaning.

i understand what FD tried to do whit PP, they been trying to develop a system where players can have more impact on the story whit out breaking the main plot.
by adding powers as a sub level to the main factions they can allow them to get completely wiped out and allow new ones to rise. something like that i think would be hard to do whit a regular faction war system.

the idea is nifty i think, but i could say other things about the execution of it,
so i think we should put focus on that instead of trying to make up a completely new system.

I personally think, the fact that I have to vent my cargo into space so another person can pick it up simply does not make sense. I understand it for piracy, but between two willing parties, why is there not a docking or transfer method? Even if it sent a "large" drone that could transfer, maybe 10T per trip, would be more realistic and save loads of time. I personally wouldn't want pirates boarding my ship to take the cargo, so venting the cargo or sending a drone would be better than docking with the pirate. (piracy was going to be my focus in this game until I realized, unless someone has 20 tons of Platinum or something, its not really worth it.)

Because I can paint the statistics on this page how I want, their specific answers that you the OP wanted, that's a biased effect on statistics which makes them flawed. You didn't seek out proper answers from the community, you forced the questions on them not, What are your thoughts on powerplay, and then making a graph off of the varying answers of that.

Interesting to hear, never played EVE, I know we can't re-write the program here, but I do hope we can sway FD (not likely) with all of our constructive ideas at the very least we have to try.

99% of all statistics are wrong and used for large amounts of population, plus some of these questions weren't on the poll in the first place.

yep it's true, a statistic was used to know how accurate statistics are, and they have proven that most of them are wrong which is ironic i guess...

Like I said earlier, it really seems like they are still working on framework while trying to add new things here and there. Power Play in it's current form seems like a base for something more. The patch itself allows them to do more things with missions and such. This could all just be hope. It's really hard to say when they won't state for or against a theory like this. After all, they used the framework argument at release. It does feel to me that more things are coming though, it's just not coming fast enough for anyone, perhaps that is why they seemingly rush these patches out.

sooo and what exactly does this poll prove?

exactly...nothing.

those who dont like it have spend their time voting and raging about it, while those who like powerplay...well...play it (or just dont want to vote on another flame poll)

Yup. Forum polls are for the trash can.
