News David Braben Guest Blog - on Xbox One and CQC

I'm an alpha backer and don't really see the problem with CQC. It's extra optional content that will eventually make its way to the PC version. It's also a great tease for xone owners to buy the full game. I'm delighted with my alpha access and look forward to an almost continuous stream of future updates and content that will fill an ever expanding Galaxy. Yes maybe I would have liked to see the thargoids make an appearance instead of an arena update but I have something called patience and considering what has already been implemented I have no concerns that lots of great updates will keep coming.

Death and glory in the void and thanks for a game I am now obsessed with for the second time in my life...

Its all going to be over for the xbox version soon anyway and they will realise quite quickly how much of a big waste of money it was. Especially since its a very risky kind of game to bring to console. As a PS4 owner we can monitor what people are streaming and the stats are quite interesting. After every major big name release and after only a few weeks everyone always gravitates back to three games. Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and Destiny.

I would be really surprised if this game has any longevity on console. I know I am guilty of negativity but I honestly feel like its just gonna be a 5 minute wonder. PC will be their bread and butter for the long haul. This probably just gave them a nice chunk of cash from Micro$oft - this can only be good for the company.

I just wish they would admit that its about the sponsorship rather than pretend its for other reasons.

I'm only a public beta "backer" since i really first realized ED then, but i'm totally ok with this Tournament stuff be first on Console.
Well i'm more concerned about there IS such tournament arena mode anyway! I really have a hard time believing it fits in the Elite universe to be honest.
So i would even like to leave it to the consoles and not port it back to PC.

I knew there would be such a game mode for console as it was already announces they get an exclusive thing for a certain time.
But i had expected to be more elite like. An instant asteroid battle lounge or something.
But this catch the energy core stuff like in star citizen is somewhat of an insult to me. I really dislike it.
I think this feels more like a sellout to me as the whole exclusive thing itself.
If this is an distinct menu point and not part of the main universe i could easily live with it by ignoring this thing.

I just want to know if we can link the accounts so I don't have to spend months trading my way back to an Anaconda again. Not worth buying if we can't.

Haven't seen anything about that yet.

IF they can get the arena mode right, and it's a big if - I can see it being quite entertaining for 15 minutes of pew-pew that many console owners seem to want. It's not a bad thing. However, the larger game itself I can see being rather off-putting to those who want casual pew-pew. All we can do is wait and see how it pans out. Some of my console-only friends have expressed great interest in this, although personally I shuddered a bit.

"We hope you’ll join us in the Xbox One Game Preview. Elite: Dangerous will be available for Xbox One later today for the special early access price of £24.99 ($30.99 €30.99)."

$30.99 = £19.87
€30.99 = £22.40

Why are British players being ripped off by British companies? We're used to it from the yanks, but from our own people?

This is true. All the money withouth the long term whining from the customers. No wonder developers love writing for consoles.

Had to laugh at that! CQC looks terrible (IMHO) and another terrible move in direction away from Elite's core franchise. The good version of ED sits unrealised in the DDA and we get yet another map based fragfest game - how original.

I wonder if any CMDR's actually have gone out to buy an XB1 for this though?

Never will i buy one of those. I own a PS4 but i would never in a million years play Elite on it. Its meant for PC, HOTAS, Keyboard TrackIR etc etc.
Its meant ot be played on a computer and not a console.

I agree with you that Elite is best experienced in VR or multiscreen with oodles of nice peripherals - but as a product it is really meant to entertain it's players and make profit for the devs. If they get squillions from XB1 players, that can't be a bad thing - as long as the core principles of Elite are not changed to the detriment of the game. Thing is, I have an uneasy feeling that they will be.

Does anyone even know if we can log into our current characters on the Xbox one?

Hi :)

Good question, and as I don't have any experience or familiarity with the Xbox I would like to ask another couple of questions too.
Would the Xbox versions full 'Galaxy/play area' eventually be released exactly the same as the Pc & Mac version stands now, or more to the point...as it's 'progressed' at the time of the Xbox full release?
Are/will the two platforms be totally compatible with each other?

If this is so then there are a number of other questions that might be interesting to be discussed for clarification ;)
.
Jack. :)

Its side content, it would probably have match making in some form as well. So I don't know what the big deal is with about side content that doesn't affect the main game in any form, what so ever.

I hope the money makes up for all the people who leave. Because it's not just the people leaving they should be worried about. Word of mouth spreads quickly in gaming communities, and PC players can be some of the quickest to take up arms against you. So hopefully when consoles are no longer relevant, they'll have something incredible to try and bring everyone back. Otherwise, they better hope the XBox plays out as well as Call of Duty.

Why the game will have a population that understands what the game mode is for anyways. I will still enjoy the game for what it is and support FDev, provided they fix the AI Spawn Bug that was caused by overdramatized Whining about a certain side game mode in the recent past.

Why would anyone "leave"? Because of this announcement?
Why i should stop playing games that i like only because something the developers do externally what doesn't affect me in my game as it used to? This would be stupid. ^^
And you don't pay monthly for servers or something, you had already paid for the game. So basically this would change nothing, but you would only punish yourself.

Just love this part from Brabant: :_)

'' We have some great things to come; this is just the beginning. '' D.B.

Thanks Frontier to make this game better and better.
Please, Next patch: Make all the MW Galaxy full of new things- weird- suprising - to explore. Thank you.
Thanks Frontier.

I'm glad that I've never spent as much money on a game as some of you, and never will, so I never have the honor of feeling so entitled. Please come back down to Earth folks. The sky isn't falling. We haven't even heard their E3 announcements yet and don't know what they have in store for the rest of the year or next. CQC will be a great game mode for plenty of people, it's not all about you.

You have wrong. We are not punishing ourself. We are sending a message.
The game is not finished. It's not even a third of it.. and we are seeing stuff like mac and xbox versions, before the one they have promised us.. an Elite full for PC.
We have payed for it long time ago. We are the backers that have sponsored this game.
Not the Mac port, not he XBOX port.. not the PVP-CQC super stuff, not the Power Play's boring grinding-nonsense.

The starting promises are very far away... and the devs's line is pointing in another direction right now.

I see elite, and I have elite. Combat, Trading, Exploring. All in a simulator fashion. Maybe some Thargoids thrown in eventually, add a little bit of the FFE procedural generation, and some persistent universe goodness.
