News David Braben Guest Blog - on Xbox One and CQC

Deary me, people paid upwards of £200 for Alpha access, some people paid £5000 and had multiple accounts during the Kickstarter and you give access to Xbox users ahead of them. If you don't see an issue with that then I give up.

It's very obvious, but they have not option but to hold the company line.

Here, why don't you take the 5$ coupon you want to give me for buying the game again on a subpar system. That way, you can buy some lube for the ramming that Micro$oft is clearly giving you.

These arguments are a bit weird. We backed a game we wanted to be made. The price we paid during the Kickstarter and as Alpha/Beta backers was to get the game funded. It is funded now, it has been developed to the point of being a new and shiny version of the original Elite with some nods to Frontier/FFE. Now we are getting extra features made by an established (and growing?) team including XBox support and features. That's great, and it is not starting over from scratch. So there is no point in trying to compare the original crowd funding for a PC game to bringing the game to the console market.

So why are we having this discussion?

:D S

People paid for PP? Do you really thing if people knew what PP would become when they were pledging money they would have been happy with it?

It's a perfect fit for the platform, so it made sense for it to come onto Xbox One first - it will be coming as a free update to PC and Mac before the end of the year.

Michael

Wait. So it's going to take 6 months to get CQC into the game? How much longer before we start working on the DDA then?

OH MY!
Everyone's cross!

E3 is like chrismas for gamers and what Frontier have just done to PC gamers was a christmas FAIL.

'get excited about tomorrow son, you're gonna love the surprise!'
christmas morning, 'we've bought your sister a bike!! you can have one in an undetermined amount of time, upto and including six months... SURPRISE!!'

I don't think it's that big a deal, microsoft asked for something special and they did something. They tried to make it as far away from the core game as possible, so not to upset everyone...

oh well. but wait....

what the hell are they going to do for the PS4 Release!?!

Sounds interesting
CQC could be a great way for groups to practice together

I assume it will be divorced from you main commander?

Good way to get the X-Box One players some flight time before tacking the cold and uncaring Elite Universe as well.

Best of luck with XBO in 2015, FD!

(Premium Beta customer here... one who has been delighted with the experience I got from the ED PB/Beta/Gamma phases in 2014)

I could not say it better myself.. I get why some are peeved but ultimately I just want ed to get big enough to do well. If that means giving the xcbox guys exclusive beta access to an arena mode so be it. Just please use that cash to get some of that juicy dda content in there :)

Coherent approach of Frontier. To bring about new commanders and money. And allow beautiful developments in the future. However I find that the players of ED for PC / MAC should have a 50% discount on the purchase of the X1 version. Although I will not buy a console X1 to play ED

I wonder if any CMDR's actually have gone out to buy an XB1 for this though?

1) The original Elite did include a CQC mode, It involved shooting at stations and taking on as many Vipers as you could manage. In the gamer language of today it would be known as horde mode.

2) Kickstarter backers got the opportunity to allow Elite to finally return. I believe the vast majority where happy to see any form of product actually materalise.

3) Beta backers don't get to climb on their high horses, they were merely paying for early access just like our new Xbox brothers (and sisters).

4) I have a PC and an Xbox One both have affected by mental agility, but neither as much as night down the pub.

5) Hip hip hoorah Frontier go for it.... get this game out to as many people as possible and make as much money as you can from the Elite franchise.

I find its always best to end and old fogey post with lyrics from the kids music.... "And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate."

To be fair MS scored a few home runs today
ED, forza 6, halo 5, gears of war HD, recore that stranded on a planet game and backwards compatibility. I still think thecps4 is the console to own but this is ms best e3 in a long long time

Actually i wouldnt mind this new PvP mode, as long its some extra game. I would see it you can use your ship or default ones to play vs other players in some instance and get no penalty.
So PVPers can do what they want to while all other can enjoy the game as it is now.
Actually i would prefer that.

As for the new mode, i would calm down. We just got powerplay with a lot bugs. Getting the next update with even more bugs would totally kill my will to play this nice game at all. Let them fix the bugs in powerplay and betatest the X-Box one users and we get that little Extra game later on.

On a side note the XBox one is just a low spec PC too.
i wonder how they will improve the controlls with controllers. Actually im quite used to the layout as it is now on the Xbox 360 controller and i think its good enought.
Just some extra dropdown menue might be missing for the few keys i still have to use the Keyboard for.

Yes we paid for PP, just as we paid for the Stellar Forge, shaders, Diamondbacks, Asps, multi-cannons and so on. We paid for the game to be developed, for a concept to be fleshed out. It is being fleshed out and developed as we argue here and will continue to be so thanks to the efforts Frontier is also putting into keeping the cash-flow going.

If you pay to get the game YOU want developed, you are bound to become disappointed. But if you pay to let the game developer realise their dream, you are much less likely to be disappointed. But you need to let them have their artistic freedom to do so. Warts and all, ED is still being developed and is blooming before our eyes.

If backers want their money back because things don't quite turn out exactly how they wanted it, they do not understand the concept of backing. It saddens me to see this happen in the ED community (again), and I hope it is mainly the loudmouths here on the forum that have that view on things. The rest, hopefully, are happy to truck along and see where things go.

I would love to hold the belief that this will lead to more of the DDA/DDF being worked on; judging by the power play feature and now this arena... I am almost out of hope for the game. For me personally; this is strike 2!
