PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

Just tossing it out there, but isn't Elite: Dangerous on Xboxone pay to play? I mean the monthly subscription?

Is this a sign of things to come for the pc version?

Actually, I would have preferred seeing CQC now than PP (because I might completely ignore PP for now). I played Elite back in the days on a Schneider-Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and Amiga 500 and now ED since its release. I played Jumpgate and Eve, but they haven't been able to keep me going as ED is doing. I actually like that Elite Dangerous is not the Elite from the past (well, to some extend it is). It's more like The next Google will not be like Google. And yes, I understand the KS crowd being mad at FD.
.
I like the idea of a nice/crazy/absurd PvP arena, maybe because I'm not the best PvP'ler at all and an arena with its obstacles might counterbalance this using hmm strategic play. I can pick when I go and want some get some instant Pew Pew. There are so many options, leagues, single ship class combat or multi class classes, ranks only, capture the energy bomb or what ever they do in the trailer when they fly to the core (0:55), what about destruction derby in Adders, capture the Sidewinder, etc. or just racing with no guns.
.
Link it to the bounty, if the cops get you, you have a chance to get rid of it by being forced to run a survival derby aka Running Man (and if you win, they trough you in a black hole anyhow :D).
.
So, yes, fix what is there, get PP straight and iron out the logical kinks e.g. relationships of powers to factions, get a galaxy map that doesn't feel its from a different game, and have better navigation options in there. Captain's log and bookmarks. What about bookmarks or a physical marker/beacon that can be deployed to later find a specific place, e.g. an asteroid with a rare metal? etc etc. There is so much basic stuff that would increase the game play and flow.
Cheers, P.

Don't give them new ideas!

We understand the reasons but it makes more sense for the current pvp community to be testing a pvp mode in ED as they've put about a years worth of play time in to the game and hundreds of hours of flying and testing.

You're not already listening to the current pvp community as you're latest "undocumented cargo fix" broken pvp piracy.

Maybe you should start listening to the current players and testers before bringing in a fresh load who have little to no experience with the game.

but it is a new game environment, clearly a part of the package for the xbox one, and likely part of the original deal. it will likely have been thoroughly play tested in-house by xBox testers. being told it will eventually be coming to us on pc suggest some further initial exclusivity for xbox one players, which is cool, everyone wants a little something extra when they buy into something.

this is maybe why we knew nothing about it, and also why were not needed for the process, especially if will has been designed initially around the xbox controller. it dos make a lot sense, and if you cant see that, you need glasses or some-such.

*sorry, i repeated so many words in those 2 paragraphs.. its late, im tired.. forgive me?

The angry mobs here should simply just wishes that ED will be a complete failure on consoles and so FD can go back begging the master race to stay :p

Seriously, there are reasons why space sims never succeed on consoles; and I don't think no mans sky, eve valkyrie and elite are going to change that

That seems like a big accusation and assumption to me.

yeah very much so.. it is true there were some redundancies and restructuring just after game release, but at the end of a large scale project these reductions in staff are usually known by the staff. the business model for the game going forward crew required for initial reduced provisioning.. some of the guys artists etc were fully aware, with some already leaving before the reductions happened. also should be noted they actually took some staff on in the UK, not too long ago. and are always hiring for 1 role or another with Frontier.

Don't mind waiting. I have heaps to do already and earn some credits.
Also will be nice to get the info about the Arena mode so I can perhaps buy a ship and kit it out specifically for CQC mode by the time its ready for release.

I'm very happy to see this. Not because I own an x-box, but because I see the new station/ship model assets and think of all the ways they could be used to craft new missions. For example, infiltrating one of these stations and destroying specific parts. Defending the station/clearing out intruders. Salvaging useful wreckage from a destroyed/abandoned version of the station...

So many possibilities!

Have I missed something(post) where is it stated that this will be PvP ONLY, will it be OPEN mode only?

announcing Close Quarter Combat – instant-action PVP combat in the Elite: Dangerous galaxy for PC, Mac and Xbox One. You can play CQC first on Xbox One in the Game Preview Program next month. CQC is a new way to play Elite: Dangerous, and we’ll be testing it first with the Xbox Live community.

Its only going to work if its balanced where only small/mediam/large ships are pitted against each other

i think i read someone saying.. just look what they did and didn't share with us.. seriously?? since when do a game company have to share anything? i would argue that DBOBE is not in the MS pocket, he taking advantage of an opportunity to increase game revenue, the player-base, and really show what their engine can do. there will be a DNS in place between MS and frontier regarding this project too. just remember backer =/= director, producer, engineer or even coffee boy.. some people certainly seem to put far too more importance to themselves when it comes to this game, wouldn't be so sad if it was just kids.

It does not seem likely they would make a separate netcode just for PC and Arena mode. Xbox is highly likely to use P2P, as peer to peer has less problems in closed platforms (cheating is much harder, besides pulling the plug that is). But lets wait and see what it turns out to be.

It's actually very unlikely Xbox will use P2P; Microsoft will most likely try to leverage their Azure platform for dedicated servers. Now, if we're really REALLY lucky, that will backwash into PC and we'll get dedicated servers too instead of this problematic P2P crap.

The fact is that Windows 10 and Xbox are basically the same platform, even more if you hook up an Xbox controller, and you will get to use Xbox Live on PC under Win10.

Xbox is just a glorified run off the mill PC with cheap hardware.
the very idea of charging twice for the same game is a big joke anyway, oh wait -- they give you a whopping 5 GBP VOUCHER!! Whooppdee--frickin-dooo, go buy the game twice.
Mind is boggled.

since crowdfunding?

Not that i'm happy about this, but it's completely understandable (at least for me) why FD made this move. XBO players get to play it first for couple of months because FD made a marketing move to boost game sale for XBO. Fine by me, but at least make sure to squash the bugs before implement in PC.

Once XBO is out, please add more contents from DDA, ship moving service, module storage, etc.

CQC squashes console owner complaints such as, "Nothing but a PC game port - all they did was recompile for XBO and set to use the one controller".

While the Mac platform version gained benefit from being (close to) 1:1 PC equivalent, XBO version has some differentiation at a crucial marketing stage.

xbox getting it first..... despite pc people backing the game on kicstarter.... despite FD litteraly saying that xbox version will never take priority over pc version.... thx for lying to our faces FD...
