Elite: Godus

I didn't back Godus or even download it but I am starting to see more and more correlation between ED and that.

They wasted incredible levels of backers money on developing on another platform and are by the deafening silence not going to deliver many of the features promised.

features like PP and CQC are obviously not unwelcome but it is obviously they are at best not the meat people have been hoping for.

question is when are we going toget the little chat

I think they fail to realise people want depth to what's there, not shiny new stuff.

I backed Godus ... haven't checked in with that for [thinks] two years? I'll never back P. Molyneux on a kickstarter again, I'll tell you that much.
The difference between Elite Dangerous and Godus though ... at least we have game with Elite Dangerous, I doubt Godus is even playable.

It's actually pretty playable if you like that sort of thing (which I do).

If they release an official release version on PC I'll check it out again for sure. I got many hours of play out of the PC beta (and the ipad version for that matter).

I think that is why it is so annoying they developed new stuff for a platform it shouldn't have been developed for because those gamers prefer shiny stuff when they could have been developing better missions or real NPCs or a million other things.

They need to get real it's been released for 6 months and it hasn't progressed hardly at all.

Meh, I'm happy for it to be on XBox, I have no beef with that at all.

What evidence have you got that money has been wasted?

That's your opinion. FD from the start were honest that they planned to expand from the PC platform. First they did the Mac as promised and then Xbox (Some people may say it was to early), the company did not lie are hide this from the backers (I joined during the Beta).

Since December we have had three major updates to the game, adding new features, with regular patching to the game.

I am getting a bit tired of the constant negativity that seems to exist on this forum. The game is here, it’s for the most part playable and FD are moving onwards with its development. You may not like Wings or PowerPlay but both add to the game. You will see more being added to the game. The CQC will add to the game something different. I may not play it much, but I can see it will bring people into the game. Plus as stated its a perfect fit for a console.

Oh man, please don't mention Godus. Absolute car crash. Unplayable clicky mess. At least we can play ED, if only they would fix the bugs and add in the promised features from the DDF we would have a really great game.

Agreed. I have some beefs with how development is proceeding, but this isn't one of them.

It's only playable if you like a wafer thin game with a lot of different backdrops to take screenshots of. Some of us want more than just a number of small play-pens with highly predictable scenarios placed in a vast universe of filled with progress bars to grind up.

They said once it was finished they would port it across, it clearly isn't finished.

in 6 months 1.1 added community goals....... (lets be bored together)
1.2 Should have been included with release.
1.3 Added mainly a feature that wasn't in the DDocs and has added very little to the game in reality (check the polls) and took 3 months before it was released.

there are 4 things to do in 400 Billion solar systems, we need more depth, we need what was promised, this game needs it at least.

if you hate moaning wait a couple of months for the XBONE full release and wait for the walls of moaners from there to hit us.

I backed the KS to get Elite IV made.

As far as I can tell they have delivered a new Elite game just fine.

You can argue your interpretation of the KS vision as much as you like. If you back a Kickstarter you are taking a risk, you listen to what the visionary has to say and decide if you want to back the vision. There is little guarantee you will get anything. In most cases you will probably get something but it won't necessarily be everything you interpreted from the initial pitch.

If you wanted to make a consumer decision you wait until the product is made.

Whether Frontier can expand on all of the extended ideas and concepts that were put together during development remains to be seen. It's their IP and their business. If they want to expand the space game genre onto new formats and seek new revenue to expand the development then awesome. Why the heck wouldn't an Elite game appear on a console? The only game in the series that didn't make it to a console was FFE.

ED is nothing like Godus.

Godus was a setup from the start; they always intended it to be F2P, and played on the nostalgia element to get PC gamers to fund it. The game as proposed turned out to be something entirely different from what was delivered. Now that they've got a bit of income from their gem store, they've pulled most of the development team off the game and have moved onto the next shiny thing.

With ED, what we've got is a playable (if a little shallow currently) game that's a worthy successor to the originals, and that Frontier are continuing to develop.

It is important to bear in mind the sheer amount of funding that Xbox deal must be bringing in, and so long as they've struck a decent deal with Microshaft that won't hamstring PC development in the long term it will quite possibly turn out to be a good thing. Not to say I am not starting have reservations myself, I want to see something quite big in the next few months towards giving the current game more depth.

Hard to compare games really. FD imho has tried very hard to achieve a lot during development and post release. I think problem is communication and expectations - NOT actual lack of effort (as Godus seems to have).

So no.

It's not quite the same as Godus. Godus was abandonware. Elite is still being made and I think the developers have their hearts in the right place, but they've completely lost direction.

They're also trying to compete with the big boys in the AAA game industry now. That's a kamikaze tactic.

Sorry but I can help but think of that Simpsons episode

"I don't know Homer Simpson, I never met Homer Simpson or had any contact with him, but...I'm sorry, I can't go on."
"That's OK, your tears say more than real evidence ever could."

As far as I am concerned my Pledge has not been wasted

I am playing the successor to the Elite line

As said it is still being developed. What is in now will be added in further updates. Some you may agree on and some you wont.

If you are not happy with the gameplay move on and play something else and come back in 6/9 months time. Steam sale on at the moment and I am hitting my credit card badly at the moment.

In the end its just a game.

They said once it was finished they would port it across, it clearly isn't finished.
The word they used was 'done'. Which as is usually the case with FD pronouncements, is ambiguous. It tempts you to believe you have been promised something, but still allows for plausible deniability. "No, 'done' doesn't mean finished, whatever gave you that idea. This game will never be finished, we will constantly be enhancing it. No, 'done' means 'released'. We did that in December 2015, and, as promised, ports have followed".
