Elite: Godus

I didn't back Godus or even download it but I am starting to see more and more correlation between ED and that.
They wasted incredible levels of backers money on developing on another platform and are by the deafening silence not going to deliver many of the features promised.
features like PP and CQC are obviously not unwelcome but it is obviously they are at best not the meat people have been hoping for.
question is when are we going toget the little chat

Was anything remotely like CQC promised in KS? I bet it would drive away big percentage of people.
PP is just fine if you see it as barebones, while waiting for fully fleshed, balanced and more complex and varied faction system to grow out of it.

As said it is still being developed. What is in now will be added in further updates. Some you may agree on and some you wont.

If you are not happy with the gameplay move on and play something else and come back in 6/9 months time. Steam sale on at the moment and I am hitting my credit card badly at the moment.

In the end its just a game.

Well. I'd like to hear it from FDev what is and isn't being developed. People make all sorts of claims on their behalf on this forum. They, however, say nothing.

And yes. I haven't played the game in months. So way ahead of you there. I just wish I could truly give up hope and not care anymore.

Not in the Kickstarter, no. Arenas and simulators were discussed many times by DDF members, and FD always said they were not part of the game they wanted to build. When they changed their vision (without telling us) a year or so ago, then all of a sudden it is part of the game they want to build. In many senses, I understand what they have done and why they have done it. But it leaves a very unpleasant taste in the mouth. I am not yet prepared to use words like 'lied', 'bait and switch', 'misled', etc., but I can certainly understand those that are already doing so.

How it would drive people away? People actually asked for arena *badly* during KS and after that. It has been top requested feature (despite not having natural fit in ED). FD also never said never regarding this.

Besides CQC I fail to see that they changed their vision for actual game. Having some additional mode as training grounds...yes, it feels strange, but it is *optional*, it doesn't take away from the game. I wonder how it's 'bait and switch' in any shape or form. Yes, FD just added game mode which I and you don't care about. Microsoft paid for that. Cool. Can we move on asking FD for information about stuff that matters? :)

I hate to break it to you, but the game was reported to have a budget of around 8 million, only 1.5 million of that was from the Kickstarter backers.

The backers money was spent long ago, way before the game even hit alpha probably...

This is much wider than CQC, and you know it. We have had the argument about whether CGs and PP were part of the vision elsewhere (and I still do not accept that they were, but, hey, perhaps that's plausible deniability again). I don't have a problem with them building bits that are part of the vision that I have no interest in - I expected that, and all of us want slightly different things out of this game. Building bits that were not part of that vision (like all the major releases since it went live) without doing the core stuff I do have a problem with - though they have done a little core stuff - mining has gone from a laughably inadequate placeholder to something better (though many people still do not seem to think it has gone far enough - I have not tried it). So I still hold out some hope that the game I thought I was sold might largely appear. But, like many others, that hope is slowly draining away.

There is no point in asking FD for information about stuff that matters, because they have consistently told us that they are not saying. But if they do intend to 'complete' the game they sold us, rather than this somewhat similar one with a completely different emphasis, then saying so in their usual vague and ambiguous way, would at least give us a straw to cling on to.

I just wish they would tell us so I could stop hoping that this is the game I thought I was buying and just chalk it up to experience.

CQC isn't a waste, because lots of people want that and it appeals to Xbox gamers.

The kickstarter money is long spent on development. What will keep Elite alive and growing is by launching it on new platforms like Xbox One, vanity items and paid expansions. Then we can get more free updates with content and depth.

. Elite is still being made and I think the developers have their hearts in the right place, but they've completely lost direction.

Too focused on the big stuff and they have forgotten about the small stuff that would make a huge difference.
Dare I say the community should take some blame for that with the constant "we want" and when they deliver, they get criticised over it.

Hopefully they will get back to the game they want to build and not trying to please everyone

It's only playable if you like a wafer thin game with a lot of different backdrops to take screenshots of. Some of us want more than just a number of small play-pens with highly predictable scenarios placed in a vast universe of filled with progress bars to grind up.

first of all

HOW dare YO

grinding npcs that have no chance of killing you is god like experience

Godus in beta was a weird experience, to get to a reasonable stage of the game where you were powerful enough to test the latest added features took anywhere up to 3 days - then the devs would release another update which (in real terms*) require you to start from scratch again. but i sunk about 200 hours into it before enough was enough

imagine if every ED update put you back in the Sidewinder at LHS 3447 with 1000cr...

*you could try to persist with your old save game but it would inevitably die eventually, forcing you to restart
