There could be. If there were ways to earn equivalent rewards by doing content that is not Power Play then it wouldn't be an issue.
This would make you happy. However, then the faction reward would lose it's specialness as both reward and flavor for that faction, and the people who complain about the faction rewards
not being good enough would be put out.
I maintain the initial claim: There's no pleasing everyone.
Not going to happen. I don't plan on ever opening myself to non-consensual PvP again for as long as I live, not in this game nor in any other. I would rather stop playing completely than allow others the chance to attack me without my explicit consent.
I love fully consensual PvP, mind. It's just that the non-consensual variety completely ruins my day even if I pound my opponent to the ground.
But if you're in Open, you've consented to PvP. That's the point. It's a dangerous galaxy, and no-one's under any obligation to treat you with kiddie gloves.
I play in Open. Sometimes I get killed for no damn reason. It's frustrating. But it doesn't happen all *that* often. Having it there as a potential is part of the danger of the game that makes it challenging and exciting.
If you don't like it, stick to Group and Solo. I know a lot of other Open players are all snide and derisive about Group and Solo players. As an Open player myself: Those other Open players are ats.
There's really nothing wrong with Group or Solo. In my view there's not even anything wrong with them in relation to PowerPlay.
If you're in Solo, I can't hunt you down for defecting. NPC's will.
But if you're in Open - which is to say, you have consented to PvP, because that's what Open
means - then I'd love to get in on that action, with merit rewards. I play as a bounty hunter/assassin, and playing as a bounty hunter/assassin
against PCs on behalf of my power would be fantastic.
"Oh, look, it's optional content, but if you want a shoot at the best gear in the game the only way is to play it."
I think we have a disagreement about exactly how game-breaking the power-specific gear actually is. It hasn't come out yet, so it's hard to say. But I don't see it making quite as big a difference as you seem to think it will.
Sounds like what most MMOs do with raiding; it's "optional", but the game is designed to prevent the player from progressing if he doesn't take part in it. Which is a large part of why I left them behind after I spent a year raiding only to find that I don't actually enjoy raiding per see; in a full group of friends it's kinda enjoyable, because of the group rather than the content, but it only takes a single grumpy player (which is guaranteed after even a small sequence of setbacks) to throw the mood into something that is the opposite of fun.
So, in a nutshell: I don't like Power Play, I can never get to like Power Play even if it were to be perfectly executed because the core concept clashes with my personality, and the only way to make me not unhappy with it is for it to be truly optional, which means allowing players to get equivalent rewards through ways that don't involve working against other players.
So the only way to make you happy with PowerPlay - which you have no interest in playing - is to take away the power-specific rewards. The very rewards that other PowerPlay opponents are complaining about
not being special enough to justify PowerPlay.
I understand your position. But I think you're a little short sighted as to the positions of other people.
