:-( ... meh... I think I screwed up bigtime...

So I've been slaving away for some time now, accumulating enough credits to finally upgrade my Cobra to an ASP.
I sold my Cobra and "traded" in all the nice upgrades and purchased my ASP. And what do I find? All the items that I "traded" in are not in the Outfitting list at the station, so I can't buy them back. I've had to resort to buying back inferior items. You'd think that if you sell your old ship, all the uprades would end up back in the shop. Should I have sold them all one at a time to strip down the ship, then buy them back after I got the Asp?

yes, in order to move modules from 1 ship to another you have to sell the modules off in outfitting before you try to install them on another ship.

Just now 1.3 you still get 100% of original cost of the modules if you sell them in outfitting, if sold as part of the sell ship price you loose 10% and wont have the chance to refit your old modules in your new ship( if they fit,Module size)

Would have been nice to receive a warning notice or something before hitting the sell button that you would lose all the upgrades.... there's something for 1.3.x !!!!

You know what's easy? Search in your galaxy thingy for only Hi-Tech economy systems - there's surely one a hop or two away. Go there, sell your inferior modules, replace with the ones you want. Should take you ~15 minutes. :)

Its part of the learning curve.. I mean learning brick wall :)
Elite is a callback to the era of games with a manual longer than the bible and with a "find out for yourself" attitude :p

At least you learnt early with the Cobra modules unlike some (looking at me here)...

you will soon make it back, the asp is an exceptional ship, imo the best allrounder in the game.

has the diso rare offer finished now (I think it may have yesterday) but if not get over to there and do a few rare runs.

Already blown it up once! Not as tough as my Cobra yet... had a nice beam laser and some military armour... a bit squishy till I get those back!

Im sorry to say this but you will find the Asp does get blown up faster than your Cobra did, this is due to the placement of the PowerPlant even with Mil spec.

Great all rounder ship but lacking in defense once that shield is down.

Well that sucks, maybe I should have gone the Vulture.

Alternatively, just buy new ships from Founders World as pretty much every module (and every ship) is available there. Obviously if you can't access Founders World then ignore this post :p

when i used the Asp i used it as an explorer and a rare trader and kept a viper at my fav Extraction site when i just wanted to blow something up, but i will say now that ive flown all ships the only ships i have now is an Asp(rare trade), Vulture(res), Python(mission) and an Annie for trade/explore if that tells you anything.

The OP just upgraded from a Cobra. What are the odds that they have access to Founders World?

Accidentally sold my fully upgraded python this morning when all i wanted to do was swap a module to my asp. Sell instead of store is a costly mistake!

The ASP is a reasonable all rounder and the Vulture a one trick pony (albeit an exceptional thoroughbred pony!)

Personally the ASP doesn't cut it in combat for me, too lardy and vulnerable. Sure fully A spec it's decent but that's seriously expensive (at least Cr40M ). For the same cash as a decent spec 'combat' ASP you can have a top spec ASP explorer/ rare trader AND a top spec combat Vulture.
If both are out of your budget spec the ASP for exploring/ trading and A spec an Eagle (so much for fun for under CR2M) or A spec a Viper (2.5M)

Not the right path if you want to be a 'one ship man' but personally I prefer a more bespoke 'right tools for the job' approach. I love the ASP but I use it for what its best at.

Hm, that's weird - are you talking about the built-in systems like Thrusters, Frame Shift Drive, etc, or the optional modules like weapons, anything you put in internal compartments?

The Asp has different sized built-in systems... they're of a different class to the Cobra, so you wouldn't be able to see them to buy back. For instance, the Asp has Class 4 Life Support, whereas the Cobra has Class 3. So if you had A-rated life support in the Cobra, it wouldn't be usable in the Asp, so you wouldn't see it in the Asp outfitting screen even though it should still be available for buyback if you were equipping a ship with Class 3 in that slot.

You should be able to run with downclassed Thrusters, Frame Shift Drive, Power Plant though - although that's not really optimal. So you should have been able to see your Cobra's old equipment there. You can also run with downclassed shields (in fact that's one of the primary choices you make when you outfit your ship: what class of shield to use). But all your internal compartment stuff and weapons should have been available for buyback.

When you sell something, it should be available for buyback for 10 minutes as long as you don't leave the station you're at.

Maybe it's because you sold the ship as a whole? The individual components are considered to be with the sold ship and so aren't available? That seems pretty harsh.

Like someone else said, it's best to downgrade every required module to E-rated, and sell anything you can, before selling the hull of a ship. Otherwise you lose 10% value. So whether they come back in buyback or not, it's best to always do that anyway.

That's a tough break. :(

When do you get that anywhere, in any situation, ever?
You sell a car you put 20k into. You sell it with the upgrades you did to it.
Why would they then be lying around in your garage for you to fit to your next car?
They should be on the ship so the new pilot can take advantage of them.

As the others have said there is a partial way to assist with this. Sell the modules to the station before you sell your ship. Downgrade the FSD to an E1 etc... The ship won't fly properly, but you don't care because you're selling it in a moment.
The sold modules should then be available for you in the outfitting store so you can buy them back and fit them to your shiny new ship.
