Current state of Elite?

Bought Elite in November played for about a month or so and some game news and lack of content made me go offline. It's been more than six months since I even thought about Elite:Dangerous then I saw it pop up on the Steam Summer Sale. I have an honest question for the community (not a troll attempt): Is Elite:Dangerous worth re-installing/giving it a second chance?

Constructive feedback only please. :)

A lot has probably been added since - community goals, PowerPlay, new ships.

Ultimately, there's still a lot of repetition/grind but at least now there's stories behind it and benefits to it.

Its seen quite a lot of updates since then. But its still basically the same game, a few more ships, a little bit here and there, but if you didnt like it in november it might still be a little early for your return.

If you'd asked me two weeks ago i'd have said yes. At current I'd say leave it a few months since your out of it at the moment.

Sure the updates have added new content. Is it significant and gamechanging, no.
It does not change your day to day activity and is most beneficial to those invested in the politics of the game (which if you've been away you probably are not)..

It may be worth a look if you have friends in game since the wings update adds a fair bit for that and friends make it fun, otherwise I'd leave it for now. (All personal opinion, no haters please :p)

I lost interest in the game too a few months after release, but with the introduction of Wings and Power-Play its a great time to come back. ;)

You will get a ton of opinions that the game sucks, FD suck, and the game is very buggy. Others will say its the greatest space game out.
I suggest just playing it and coming to your own conclusions. A lot of people have very bias feelings for this game. Some don't like the fact that its coming out on xbox.

Any constructive feedback is impossible, as it is a totally useless, troll-like, question.
Whether you like the game is up to you. I love it, although I acknowledge that the game needs further development.

Those who like the game will say it is worth re-installing.
Those who don't like it will say it is not worth installing.

I am sure this thread will be of great help to you.
Not...

I came back a few weeks ago and am really enjoying it. It is not without issues though. Not sure anyone can really answer your question though, whilst a lot of people on this forum act like they are speaking for everyone, noone knows what you want from a game.

Yes, but not yet. I would give it another six months or so before attempting it again. Our house is still a little bare and someone appears to have installed a hot tub in the kitchen (who knew you needed one there?) :p

Although if you read between the lines what sidebyeach is really asking is: Do the updates since November add significantly to the game content since thats what made him/her leave last time.
As such most people have answered the question saying how the updates have affected them and how they may affect the OP should he return (as I did above).

Edit: Sure it is subjective but giving the OP our experience of the updates may assist in helping them decide.

^This.

Read about the facts and see if they are things you might find interesting, then try it out.
Facts are things like: What kind updates/content have been released (Wings, Powerplay etc.)

I suggest looking for the info yourself, as there are too many people around who can't separate fact from opinion. (So they end up twisting the facts to enforce their opinions)

Also suggest just to try out. After all, you already have it. Just log in, pop some assassination missions, do some trades, check out PowerPlay and wings.

Every player I met was happy to come back after a break.

FDev has only improved the game, the bugs are being fixed as they did with 1.1 and 1.2, with minor patches after the release of 1.3.

They are still updating the game frequently at their own pace, like they used to.

You'll be surprised at how much better it is now.

The game is what you make it.

For me it's not about the grind. It's about taking it easy and finding your own story. I don't see the point in rushing to the 'end game' in any game. I pay my money and I want to enjoy every second of it.

It is still the same thing....
I was similar to you - bought in beta
reinstalled 1 week ago.

few new ships.... but mechanics are the same really. :) so don't expect much difference
There is the possibility to group up. But i havent really tried that.
And you can add yourself to some of the groups and play this tug of war over systems .... by delivering items and people to stations and fight each other....

Most fun i had was reading this thread:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=141038&page=551

Which actually has some mystery and wonders inside :)

How ever exploration is still the same "target this look at it for a 30 seconds. Done
"you discovered this and that grats"

There are still the same missions, haven't really found difference since launch, nor any storytelling or at very least some few generic branching paths.

USS are still there....but now they are Small large and unknown
translation: lot of ships, one or few ships, cargo or ships.

Essentially game feels the same. It is nice and people most likely work their asses off on it.
But it still just a framework.
And every mechanic in feels like placeholder.
But for some reason devs instead of focusing on redoing whats poor, add more shallow features.

Its not like the suggestion forum is empty...

But ships and people portraits are nice :)

Indeed. C'mon FD give the game a soul and make it a place to be drawn into and not a technically impressive shell with mostly multiplayer features.

You need to play it yourself and form your own conclusions, as Elite is something different to everyone.

My opinion is that the game is much improved since release, but still suffers many problems that I wish had been addressed by now. Many bugs have been squashed, some new ones have cropped up, there are new ships to fly, combat is much improved but every other playstyle has either seen minor improvements or languished. The galaxy map and route finder are much better, mining is slightly better but exploration hasn't gotten any love from the devs (other than a credit boost). The pirate life got made tougher and trading is still far and away the best way to make credits. Multiplayer got improved by adding wings, Power Play added a virtual space risk game and some political reasons for missions and combat, but any playstyle other than fighters are better off ignoring pledging completely and staying neutral.

In short, the game is better, but how much better depends on you and how you want to play.

And today we have had.... million-credit repair bills, ten thousand in repairs from interdicting someone, german NPC names, NPC names that were just strings of boxes, an attacker who spoke several times a second, and a docking request that took a minute to go through. I suspect that wingman nav-lock still isn't fixed, and "target next system in route" button hasn't worked for me, EVER.
