So, what are the exciting E3 announcements?

Personally I don't like the No Man's Sky vid at all. Undiscovered system but has a beacon on it to beam up one's 'discoveries'? And already has some robot guards or something there to protect the planet? Almost instant hyperspace travel over a couple of hundred lightyears? Cartoony graphics? Sorry, might be fine for consoles, and they can have it, but doesn't come close to Elite or SC in my opinion. And that guy constantly referring to their 'galaxy' as the 'universe'........?

"Im the first to discover this system"

Yea right who put the Sentinel/Robots there? :D

Theres still more from Frontier supposed to be released today, I'm guessing during the PC Gaming show at 0200 Zulu(UTC). It's not just the Xbox announcement, from what I understand.

Why Braben blog may be misleading but from his yesterday blog it seems there will be nothing else announce for Elite at E3. I hope I'm wrong.

When No Man's Sky is out, I don't see myself playing ED again (as it currently stands).

I'm sure it will be a good game, but I'm not sure how anyone can say that based on a few videos of unfinished material. I suspect all early space games of such massive scope are going to have content issues to some degree.

On top of that, Sony....really, I can't even pretend to give them money.

Watching No Man's Sky video actually made me feel better about Elite.

Idk, it just looks too much automated for me, I bet our planetary landings are going to be much better than that...not to mention everything else.

It also gives me a "Spore" feeling... may be the art style.

No Man's Sky at the very least makes it clear that what most of us want from things like planetary landings are going to be possible, despite those who insist it's not.

Of course it's a LOT less accurate than Elite, that's what makes Elite much more ambitious. But ambition is one thing, delivering it is another. The guys that designed No Man's Sky were just a few and up until a few months ago it was just considered a minor indie game.
It might not have the accuracy and realism of Elite, but at least in that one, what you see is what you get. It's been over half a year since release and what we got were minor tweaks and additions that are nothing compared to the promised additional content.

If they don't announce something big soon, the player base will decline dramatically (even with the Xbox release)...

XBox release and CQC amazement

Thanks! Probably could have googled that. Don't know why - it takes LESS effort to google it, but somehow I feel lazy when I ask here.

I was disappointed that FD didn't make an appearance in the Microsoft conference to show-off anything, but a trailer for the Close Quarter Combat for the Xbox players. But in 3 hours we will have the PC Conference, so hopefully they will announce something there.

But, with Powerplay still needing some work AND the CQC-Xbox announcement I am really doubtful it will be anything big or interesting.

When No Man's Sky is out, I don't see myself playing ED again (as it currently stands).

I will definitely play both. Each has it's own draw. There is a great feeling of freedom in NMS, but also the unrealistic art style, the tiny planets, and the fact that it isn't really based on anything (like Elite being based on the Milky Way) are worrying my hopes of long term enjoyment. But I love these "endless" games of discovery.

Elite will do it different, and for me at least, way way better. In Elite the planets are full size and realistic. And MODELLED on something. NMS will have much much more variety, most likely, but Elite and realism are my thing

Xbox release is a GREAT way for them to make a heck of a lot of money, which is exactly the kind of thing that will motivate the next big releases like planetary landings

Play Elite for 6 months with additional content 0.01% of the starting (released) content and it will gradually get less awesome as well...

Elite...I don't think you get how young Elite is. This isn't a short game, this is a 5-10 year game. Relatively speaking, we have nothing to complain about

They are announcing a new game - presumably Elite: Roller coaster.

That certainly implies we will get nothing for the foreseeable future. However, the virtually content free blog by the XBox producer (https://community.elitedangerous.com/node/203) does say

Finally, I want to thank all our players on PC and Mac. We’ll have a major announcement for you soon, but for now I can tell you the new controller UI will be coming to PC and Mac later this year, and it will be joined by CQC before the end of 2015. Elite: Dangerous will keep growing on every platform it calls home.
Whilst 'soon' does not necessarily mean 'at the E3', it does seem to be hard to square with

and in coming months we’ll be able to talk about what’s next for Elite: Dangerous on PC and Mac too.
DBOBE is not one to usually give up an opportunity to do a sales pitch, and they certainly would not say anything without his explicit agreement, so the parsimonious conclusion is that we will not get anything. But, hey, DBOBE may have done a Milliband (UK politician who 'forgot' to mention the economy, and never recovered from the ridicule) and just forgotten.

I know. So would a payed expansion. But they haven't announced anything yet.
I can only speak for myself of course, but I am at the point now that, if nothing big is announced in the next few weeks I will start forgetting Elite, but if planetary landings were to be announced (or another big addition) I would keep playing like crazy...

What does this mean?

If it means that the working user interface we now have will be replaced with the XBone -one "rotate options by left-right, press X to select", I do REALLY hope we can opt out of it too.

Exactly this ^^^ No mans sky looks boring and automated. The game looks like a N64 game and the exploration doesn't make sense. "Never been to this system before 200 lys away" but there's a beacon there, a atsr fleet that loks identical to yours and every animal there is aggressive. AT EVERY PLANET. No thx.

I really can't get around the art style, particularly the colors, in the video for No Man's Sky. It gives me a headache. Seriously.
i agree, childish cartooney graphics puts me off this.
And in the video, he says that those massive space battles are happening all over the galaxy, and you can choose a side.
Remind you of anything.
