I am an alpha backer from US who spent 200 GBR on the game. Mr. Braben previously stated that XBOX ONE and PC players cannot play together because patches on XBOX ONE take longer to upload (because Microsoft needs to approve them) than on PC and MAC, where you can have patches on day 1.
Now, the CQC is available for XBOX ONE and will be available for PC and MAC in Holiday 2015. This is 6 months from now. Clearly Mr. Braben has lied to his backers, players, and everyone around the world. The real reason is the exclusivity. This would be ok if the game was funded by a publisher, however, the game was partially funded by backers via Kickstarter. The reason for exclusivity is that Microsoft wants to sell their XBOX ONE and Frontier wants to get paid. Fair enough, then let all the backers get a free XBOX ONE and a XBOX ONE copy of the Elite Dangerous. After all, XBOX ONE is the only platform where you can play CQC for the next 6 months. Frontier have used backer's money to get the ball rolling. Without backers, there would not be any XBOX ONE Elite Dangerous. Frontier states that "PC is still the main development platform". Of course it is , it is a test subject to propell the XBOX ONE Elite Dangerous sales.
I embrace Elite coming to XBOX ONE. This means more players, more money for Frontier. It is a win win situation for everyone. However, this cannot be done at the expense of the Backers. I say Backers, and not PC community as a whole because if you are not a backer and bought Elite after release, you were not promised anything besides what was in the box so to speak. However, Frontier promised a lot to Backers and now it is a slap in the face for backers to wait for CQC Release for PC version until Christmas. This is bad business. They took backer's money, used backers like a toilet paper, and then flushed them down the toilet.
First, Frontier screwed over Backers by eliminating Single Player mode and lied about true reasons for doing it as well. This was done days before the release of the game. SOLO online mode is a on-line DRM protection for Elite Dangerous, not the "shared universe" across all modes. At the same time, Frontier screwed over the multiplayer crowd who wanted MMO and PVP. So, a lot of gamers became affected. What upsets me are the blatant and nauseating lies from Mr. Braben. I used to have a lot of respect for him and played his original Elite in the 80s. I suppose - money corrupts. It only makes sense - use backers to partially fund the project. Make money from them and selling the game on their website. Sell game on Steam for greater exposure. Once this is tapped, and only (Steam sale remains), sell game on Xbox One and screw over the PC and MAC gaming community by making them wait 6 months to get their hands on CQC module. You have betrayed our trust Frontier. This is not the way to treat your backers and more importantly - your customers. It is a bad business.
As for me, I want my 200 Quid back!
