:-( ... meh... I think I screwed up bigtime...

So I've been slaving away for some time now, accumulating enough credits to finally upgrade my Cobra to an ASP.
I sold my Cobra and "traded" in all the nice upgrades and purchased my ASP. And what do I find? All the items that I "traded" in are not in the Outfitting list at the station, so I can't buy them back. I've had to resort to buying back inferior items. You'd think that if you sell your old ship, all the uprades would end up back in the shop. Should I have sold them all one at a time to strip down the ship, then buy them back after I got the Asp?

Hey man, not big time :)

You'll fix it soon. Money flows in this game, one way or another.

Well that sucks, maybe I should have gone the Vulture.

Vulture is a great ship. If you're looking for combat, the Asp is not, in my opinion, the way to go. I actually prefer the Cobra for combat over the Asp. The Vulture though, that ship holds a special place in my heart and in my hangar that's only very recently been replaced by the Python.

I just took out an npc miltary Elite Vulture with my Asp in a conflict zone. I could out maneouvre it and my 6A shields charged faster than the ones it was carrying.
It's speed was actually it's achilles heel because it initially had an Anaconda in tandem but as I legged it away from both the Anaconda fell behind leaving the Vulture alone and very vulnerable.
So yes, the Asp is a great ship if you outfit it properly, here's my loadout and it's expensive (that's the drawback):

I've never met a Cobra from Harmless to Elite, NPC to human that I couldn't easily whack. There's really no contest between a specced Asp and a Cobra.

+1 For the genius tactic there

A 10 mil spec Vulture would do a better, faster, and cheaper job in combat.

Interesting. Have you compared one against an Asp with my specification or is your claim guesswork?
I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I've met a lot of Vultures (only one human driven) and had no problem with them when I was paying attention (that one human piloted ship got me because I had target fixation on another ship but I'd previously dropped his shields and forced him to fsd away). I encountered 3 once in a USS and had to leave fast. One at a time is the maximum.

My Asp started out as a 96 tonne cargo ship and gradually paid for the combat conversion. It was finished before Vultures even existed so I'm both fond of and kinda used to it.

I have taken out NPC, Elite; Pythons, Vultures, Clippers, Anacondas and others, in CZs, less than 3 days ago. All in a Viper, with an insurance re-buy cost of just over 76,000cr and I still believe that the Cobra is a better combat ship. With Asps, once the shields go, they are toast.

Oh, just in case, there are any non-believers out there; watch this.

Just little 'dog' fighting.

Not so. I often fight ships below Python level with my shields down and win.
My military bulkheads and hull reinforcement packages give me some leeway.
I say again with experience: no Cobra can touch my Asp!

I should state that I'm not an Asp evangelist. I've been considering a Vulture for a few days as I have 40mill spare. All I'm doing is refuting statements about the Asp that I know are inaccurate.

I have to agree, that getting on the wrong end of an Asp, will hurt and a good pilot will increase that hurt. For me, it is a case of trying to stay away, from the sharp end.
