Well I'm never doing that again!

Stop, before you read this isn't a sob story about me losing my ship because I didn't have the insurance, now with that in mind, read on.

So I recently just got my Python & might have gotten it a bit too early seeing as it didn't leave me with much in terms of liquid assets. But i bought it anyway and started the trade grind up again. I bought 3 mill in Palladium leaving me with only a few thousand credits liquid. I didn't think it would be a big deal as I never get interdicted and when I do, they are usually pretty easy to escape for me. But not today. Once I was only a few mm from my home station, I got interdicted, I thought it would be easy to escape, but it wasn't. I actually blame FD for this because it kind of glitched out and froze & before I knew it I had been successfully interdicted, been hit with 2 missiles, & was at 44% hull. I was lucky to escape alive. So I limped back to the station & sold my Palladium. My heart was racing.

I will never, ever, leave a station without insurance money liquid, ever again.

Yep. This is the one "rogue-like" element of the game. I've done sort of what you did a couple of times and could have lost everything... it was a little bit exciting, though!

Recently I dropped out of SC at a station like normal but the game dropped me INSIDE the rotating bits and I nearly got wiped out... Pro Tip is to log out when that happens, btw.

Everyone fears the coming of the Thargoids. However: It is the pixels, one should really fear; because they know everything and just love a tragedy.

You were trading Palladium in a Python with no insurance and no shield?

I'd disagree. The only thing to actually fear in Elite, as in actually be horrifically pant-wettingly, bowel-voidingly, skidmarks on your monitor scared of - are the devs :D

And here was me thinking you were going to say to never waste a couple of hours of your life watching DB nearly throw up, announce a ridiculous game and waste 3 minutes of premium advertising time ;).

If that was 3 minutes of DB air-time then I'm an aardvark smeared in polystyrene cement with a Trident missile shoved where things should never be shoved!

I know, it seems as if every time I make a mistake some thing happens to make me say "Why did I do that"

You would be a tough aardvark! You would be a proud aardvark! You would be a feared aardvark!

You had shields? How in the deep deep black did you manage to lose shields and go down to 44% hull in that amount of time?
class 3D shields; only good for absorbing a bump going through the starport entrance.

3A shields actually. I know they suck, but I'm not a combat player at the moment so I don't need much other than to help me escape.

I do the same in my Python when trading.
We are used to not needing more. I am wondering whether I should sacrifice some cargo space to run with better shields and armament.

Recently I've had a couple of instances where the game froze coming out of hyperspace. After killing the process and logging back in I found my shield down, although no damage taken. Also I'm sure we've all had occurrences of insta-interdictions with no chance to avoid them.

Although both of those events may look like bugs to the untrained eye we're lucky to have people on hand to remind us that they're actually the fault of the OP for not having the right shield or enough insurance money.

+1 for living on the edge.

I like living on the edge. Did it with my Python, and when I bought a T9, even did it with my Anaconda.
Almost lost all when I boosted into a station by accident with my Anconda loaded with slaves. Good old exciting times :)

Yea, it was a calculated risk on the OP's part, and OP admitted it. I've done it and been lucky enough to not streak my undies.

When I bought my asp I was desperately underfunded for trade so I geared to fight and did a CG for combat zones until I had the money to do whatever.

Yes.
I was powerful, unstoppable, mighty, nothing could do anything to my Anaconda, my lasers could boil a ocean in a minute, my shields were indestructible – until I jumped (as usual) to Cartoi (double star) in a wrong angle…

I went directly through the first star, all alert bells were going on and immediately I overheated to 150%

You are never safe in the Universe …

So you decided to go with this protection for your 56 million Cr base-cost ship.

MW-BQ655_bubble_ME_20131210095914.jpg

Then you decided to fill the hold with palladium.

And take off with a few thousand remaining in your account.

Props to you, man. That takes some cojones.

As a sequence of events though... that's really, really dumb. I mean hilariously, awesomely dumb. I'm still giggling.

Heheh, I think most of us learn the lesson not to fly without insurance at some point. A lot more painfully. You got off light!
