I Need Adventure

Ok, disclaimer... I'm another kickstarter backer about to have a rant, but i'll try and keep it brief(ish):

After playing for 6 months since release (i'll ignore by time as beta backer), I think I have come to the point where I have "seen it all" and that makes me really sad because that should never happen with this game. Don't get me wrong this is a great game, I still love the sheer joy of flying around and "doing stuff", but I'm in dire need of adventure and I can't find it. For me (appreciate others will think differently) PP is a timesink and all about politics. I don't have huge amounts of time to waste and i really don't care about politics so it's not for me. I'm glad some people are enjoying it though.
I backed ED because i wanted adventure, i wanted to be a lone wolf in a vast universe with adventure and danger around every corner.
I've done all the trades and have enjoyed doing all of them, but what i really love is exploration, but after travelling many 10's of thousands of ly's across the galaxy i find it to be utterly, breathtakingly beautiful but completely devoid of game content. I want to go 20,000ly into the void and find ship wrecks, dysons spheres, signs of old civilisations, anything. I can imagine branching missions in the void that take you on a trip to nearby systems and puzzles and clues to be solved to find hidden treasure or valuable artifacts and i want to feel like I'm the first to find it.
I think most of this kind of content can be added now, but it's not, which makes me think that's deliberate. Maybe all of it is coming in one massive content update which is payable; that's great, i hope so!!

But for now I'm left adventureless and feeling like I'm in a huge basket that has yet to have anything in it.

PLEASE FD, let me know; just give me a hint, between you and me, that even the slightest bit of what I've mentioned is coming soon??? I don't care if i have to pay for it; i'll give you a blank cheque, but i would really like to know that it's on it's way!

/ END OF RANT ;)

Regarding your bit I highlighted in Red - how do you know they aren't there, space is a big big place, maybe you were looking in the wrong area? And what happens after you find your dyson sphere or the tumbling carcass of the USS Enterprise, will you come back here to complain so more? Instead of having FD organise the game for you, set yourself goals. Not big ones, just little ones like finding three earth like planets in a session. You will find having short term goals that are achievable makes the game a lot more enjoyable.

You are wasting your time mate. All you will get from this lot is the same "use your imagination, Treat it like real life" excuses or the shoot you down lot who suffer from OCD. Its a big empty galaxy with a poor mission system almost devoid of humanity (barring the pictures of power play people) thats slugging along on the creativity side of things about as fast as DAYZ at the moment.

yea or could see how times you can fly round a star in minute. or try a jump to 4 stars of the same class in a row, like connect 4 .

Been there, done that, multiple times.
I take your point about there may already be some of that in the game though, but i think if it's this hard to find it's not really fulfilling it's purpose. Oh and one last really important bit; if i ever found anything like that, just once, i definitely wouldn't be moaning ;)

This made me smile :) Have some rep.

<speculation>

I think we're at the point where although tons of stuff is planned, FD's resources are spread so thinly that we'll just have to wait.

Everything was thrown at wings and powerplay updates, and right now Xbox (unfortunately) is the main focus. They were never gonna get on the console with broken multiplayer, so wings had to be developed. I don't know what powerplay is all about...there's nothing in there for me, but again to sell xbox copies its added things to do and some PC players are enjoying it. CQC has been developed as almost a skunkworks project...its all about the xbox, and that's fine because its gonna generate revenue, and that's what Elite needs for long term commercial viability.

After xbox, I think we'll then see dev focus shift onto PS4 - they'll no doubt get some sort of exclusive too, maybe the first to get groovy VR add-ons for Morpheus.

It doesn't help that some people on this forum are now crying about Linux support.....If they get it, then us poor PC users will be pushed further down the pecking order....It may be some time before we get what we want.

I'm pretty confident that Elite will one day present us with many new and complex things to fill our time with, but its not just about PCs from here on in.

We can only wait because we're not the only team at the party anymore.

I feel that ED is a great game about to happen. Frontier obviously have a plan and at the moment they are looking for revenue to move this plan forward. I am too am looking forward for the adventure that OP describes and am sure it will gradually appear over time.

I expect that once they have the Xbone release generating income we will get a glimpse of their roadmap.

In the meantime, I hope they resist the demands for complex add ons that will add little to ED universe.

Op you are lying. This is not a rant - it is a clear and concise post from sb who has nailed the real problem on the head. There is not enough filler, also some things are not there yet ( FPS mode for example ). The only tip I can give you is to play sth else for a while and come back when you feel the itch again ( hopefully by then there will be more live in the Galaxy ).

All I can say is congrats. I'm in this game day in and day out - pre-ordered, have been playing since release - and I'm still incredibly far from hitting the top ship/top credit levels. I've got a huge amount still to explore.

Well. Plenty of people here don't seem to know the difference. And just fights anything that has a hint of critique. So you might as well label it for easy access ;)

I am one of the first to shoot down the grumblers, the ranters and the whiners. OP is neither. Thats what I wanted to convene.

Different motivations for different people.

Personally I see no reason to grind to the Anaconda since nothing changes with each ship I get. I can do pretty much exactly the same thing. Just the cockpit changes and I can maybe carry more stuff.

And exploring isn't - to me - very interesting as nothing new happens. When I jump to a new system. It looks different, sure. But I scan it and move on to the next one.

Guess OP is more like you than me though. I didn't make it to 3000 hours. That's for sure. More like a 10th of that.

You sir. You are one of the good ones... :p

There are many possibilities in this... ahem... space and lots of creative content that could be authored and embedded by Frontier and other interested parties.

We'll have to see if it happens.

Cheers,

Drew.

Quite true.
But the OP wrote - 'I think most of this kind of content can be added now'.
No it can't.
I'm sure you cannot create content for your novels in an instant. It is not a trivial task is it?
And I want a new novel set in the Elite universe from you.
But please take your time.:)

I have submitted a proposal to Frontier for this very thing (in-game adventure content). It's ready to go and could start tomorrow, it's entirely up to them. ;)

This isn't supposed to be self-aggrandisement, but an indication that there are qualified and talented people at Frontier's beck and call who could quickly write some amazing in game adventures, who get the 'desire for adventure' coming from the fans, understand the lore, could work around the limitations of the game as is and provide a damn fine experience for the players and without requiring too much (or any significant) input from the software/dev side of the equation. Frontier has to decide that's a) desireable and b) a priority compared to whatever else is on their roadmap.

So I respectfully disagree. Yes it can.

Cheers,

Drew.

Thank you. I'm glad that came across, because first and foremost i love this game. I backed it in kickstarter and i'm sure i'll be playing it for years to come, but i just felt that i had hit a bit of a brick wall of content ;) I think having a slight break for a few weeks may help as to be fair i've been playing it virtually daily for months LOL

OP You own the game. Nothing wrong with parking your ship, logging out, and doing something else for a for a while. I did that, now I'm coming back to wings, pp, New ships, ect. If I get bored again, then I'll just logoff till there's more. Some people also have success with resetting and starting from scratch, but I'm guessing you've done that.

how do you know they aren't there, space is a big big place,

i am also thinking along those lines, how do we really know? FD likes their secrecy and they love to hide stuff.
i read that people are still making discoveries in Frontier after all these years.

There is one thing which should be a really nice to have. Some tool (like scripting tool and/or editor) which allows players to create some kind of content in-game. Like player driven missions, local newspapers, maybe even some structures in inhabited systems or player driven CGs. I bet that if such a tool exists, there will be plenty of content during days, weeks.

For example, as soon as there is possibility to have second fuel tank and drones, players organised the FuelRats thing. IMHO excellent idea of player driven content.
