First person, third person or both

I like the idea of replicating how it works currently with the ships. 1st Person View limited apart from a debug camera that cannot be used to provide advantages or used for anything except vanity and taking pics/recording video.

Sadly it will be first person with all the downsides that brings, but there would appear to be reasons.

Third person would obviously be better.

Having both does have a development time impact. First person is completely different and requires different models for hands and weapons etc. I'm perfectly happy for them to put in something sensible and functional to begin with. This is still an independent niche' title. Fair enough that Star Citizen has the budget for lofty goals but I'm perfectly happy with Frontier's alternative approach of building things up with the resources they have.

Its confirmed by the journalisr he made a typo, David said 1st person.

David didn't mention any POV, just walking around the ship. It could still technically be either although it's likely to be whatever was originally discussed.

I prefer 1st person only. Unfortunately very few games can swing both 1st and 3rd correctly without feeling wooden or sloppy in their implementation.

You are right unfortunately, the industry standard for view modes should be (IMHO) Star Wars Jedi Outcast 2002, you could could switch between 1st and 3rd with the touch of a button or set an option to play 1st person until you drew a lightsaber at which point it switched automatically to 3rd.

Good game, maybe I should play it through again.

The only game I recall playing that I thought worked in both 1st and 3rd person instances is every Hitman after the 1st one. Lately the gold standard for 1st and 3rd has been anything by Bioware but 1st person is just awful in Mass Effect or any of the Star Wars Old Republic games.

I take back my previous comment, I thought it was about ships not walking around.

I'm easy either way, there should be a choice though as I'm sure rift wearers wouldn't want 3rd person.

I'll have to take your word for it, I gave up on mass effect (because of the 3rd person view) after 20 minutes of the first one and have never played any hitman other than the original demo. The old republic felt like a mass effect clone and I ditched that too (I'm picky).

The best first person game I've played in a long while is stalker, and the worst is colonial marines.

Any bio-ware shooters you'd recommend ?

if there is going to be combat while on foot then 1st person only for me, cant stand the whole camp the corner and still see round it thing

Yes, that's why I said in an earlier post that my preference is the same system as for ships currently. 1st Person View limited, apart from a debug camera that has been implemented to ensure it can't give unfair advantages and is really only for vanity/pics/recording video.
