Weapons....?

Thanks for all of the advice everyone! :D Its much appriciated. Its good to know i Have one of the faster ships. Im now gonna keep it for a while.

I was going through my hard points and internal components, when I noticed a lot of the spots have a blue upper right with a plus sign. What is this? O.O

That just means the outfitters has equipment for sale that can fit in that compartment. (Before it appeared in older game versions, it was a tedious process of clicking on every compartment to see if anything was available.)

They should remove rating all together for weapons. Currently I do not see how they contribute, especially as the higher rater weapons are generally worse due to impracticality.

It might be a left-over from when they had overpowered and low-heat variants of these weapons.

For the life of me I don't know why they dropped those, they added something to the whole outfitting metagame.

For the sensor rating... I remember a video where someone showed that with A-rated sensors the gimbaled weapons have a small advantage over the lower ones.

Here's what I'd go with:

Gimballed beams on the bottom hardpoints and gimballed multicannons on the medium hardpoints.
Beams on fire 1, Multi's on fire 2.
.
Some people use medium beams and small multi's but it's better to use small beams for shield damage and medium multi's for hull damage (something to do with hit penalties of small and medium weapons against target's hull).
.
You could ditch one of the cargo racks for a shield cell but you'd have to mess around with the module priorities so you don't totally shut down when hardpoints are deployed.
You could maybe downgrade the kill warrant scanner to gain more power for a shield cell but that would reduce the KWS's range to < 3km. Switching off cargo hatch would gain you a bit more power too.

You don't get higher rated pulse lasers unless you get bigger sizes (3, 4, 5) which your Cobra can't mount. The size 3 fixed beam laser, for example, is a laser pointer of death. Stuff just melts beneath it.

Gotchya. Thanks for that. I'm starting to get the hang of things. I now have a C4 shield generator. And my power plant is almost maxed out. But, I think Its ok now. THanks for all fo the tips, and I apologize if i sound soooo n00bish.

Also, when in super cruise, what are the blue concentric circles around planets represent? o.o

Only 1 rating per weapon type:

Taking beam laser as an example:

For a cobra i'd advise a mix of beam lasers and multicannons. That ship has good heat management with an A class powerplant and can support those hungry beam lasers long enough to do serious damage. Gimballed works well against NPC's at this stage.

Yeah, NPC's got a major buff to their programming recently and apparently that was just phase 1. Try using flight assist off mode in combat and watch some gameplay tutorials on youtube or something. It is getting harder and more... dangerous... (sorry) but its still possible to do well.

Or eschew human contact and outfit the cobra for exploring. Disappear for 4 months, scan a ton of neutron stars and come back with a few million credits of data :p

I second that. I had only beam lasers on my Cobra with an A class power plant and an A class power distributor (important as well). I could take out any ship about my size. I'm not a pirate or bounty hunter so I've never really tried the combat aspect but I never refused a challenge when interdicted by a wanted interdictor.

My config is almost identical to yours. It is balanced on 100% with no cargo hatch power.

In my Eagle I have a shield booster, two Class 3 gimballed pulses on top, with two class 1 turreted pulses below a KWS and a FSI. I can hold my own against most single (NPC) ships, but I struggle against Wings of 3 (it can generally take a low rate Wing of 2).

I buy all my ships at Founders though, so I don't know where you would find class 3 weapons otherwise. Sorry.
You do not have class 3 weapons on your eagle.

I bought into the Premium Beta at one point, but do not have access to Shinrarta Dezhra. Unless there was a specific class of Beta backer that received access as part of the package, being a Beta backer isn't a guarantee. Most Beta players should have received the Sol permit, but I thought the Founder's world was for the original Kickstarter and possibly Alpha backers.

Ahyes...I mis-spoke...you need to have been a "Founder" (in at the Kickstarter)...or be Elite :)

I tried out a cross loadout on my Cobra.
2 beams and two multi cannons (each one class 1 and one class 2). All gimbaled.
With this fitting, it feels like having the best from both worlds. :)
