Is there a use we can find for icy rings? I find them to be some of the most beautiful places in the game. Right now I'm sitting in the kremainn 3 B ring, and the sight from the cockpit of my Sidewinder, along with the eerie exploration music, is simply fantastic. Could we place USS/WSS/SSS within planetary rings, or farther in the future, rock hermits? Perhaps some way I haven't imagined which can incorporate assassination?
It's such a waste to throw away one of the most beautiful aspects of the game. I know the developers probably have plans for them, but I'd like to hear about it.
Thoughts?
I agree - the glitter from each of the rocks is absolutely incredible. I loved how they looked so much, I put my gear down and tried to land on one.
That sounds weird, on second thought.
Anyway, I was slightly taken aback when I discovered that there seemed to be a clear progression of value in rocks for mining - Icy, Rocky, Metal-Rich then Metallic as most valuable.
I was hoping that each would be particularly good for a particular minable-only commodity. For instance, Painite isn't a metal, so it would have made sense if this would have been easier to find in Rocky. I thought it'd be so much nicer if it isn't about a given one being better, but all being good for some purpose.
Perhaps with the icy rings (assuming it's frozen water), they might for one thing be usable as an alternative fuel source - since we use hydrogen fuel. It would give explorers more options - if there were no scoopable star or gas giants (once refuelling from them is implemented), a planet with icy rings might be a lifesaver... perhaps with some special utility slot module that electrolyses the water into hydrogen and oxygen. One problem with that is that rings are generally around gas giants anyway. Not always, I know, but most often.
I definitely would like to see icy rings as an integral part of some element of gameplay, something that will attract many people to them. You're right - it's a largely wasted environment, because there's no reason to go to them at the moment. It was breathtaking flying into the ones around Saturn.
