Well done on the beginner guides guys. GJ. (sarcasm)

So i'm a new player.. just started and i gotta say this game is by far the worst game i've ever played as far as getting started is concerned (and i've played X3 and KSP .15 so thats gotta be saying something). What in the world am i suppose to be doing? I had 1k of which i've spent most of it on fuel, i'm stranded in some system with out any fuel and i cant dock because I'm getting Access denied... great now what?

Well, not to be glib, but it sounds like you'd probably benefit from deleting your save and starting again.

Have you tried the tutorial missions?

You have to be atleast 7500m to get permission to dock (over that and its permission denied), its like freelancer multiplayer if you ever played that. Just check the tons of tutorials on youtube and things even the older ones most still apply (as long as they arent based on something that was broken/bugged back then)^^. And as the guy above stated check the video tutorials inside the game.

He'd best self-destruct. It'll reset him.

Triple88a, you need to play the training missions and watch some YouTube videos, perhaps read the manual. This game comes from an age where games didn't have tutorials, they had manuals. Try it sometime.

i agree that it might not look obvious at first, and FD could maybe do a little better job at guiding players to the help sections.
that does not mean there is no help, there is tons of it both in game, on the website and other sources such as youtube,

Welcome to Elite!

Couple of tips...

-Request docking with 7.5km of station.

-Land facing the tower, and remember to lower your gear.

-To start off with, probably best to find yourself a mission on the bulletin board, just make sure it's not too far away for your ship. Something like "Take 4 of these things to Station X in System Y".

You'll get the hang of it in time.

Z...

Yep, I deleted my save on at least 3 - 4 occasions before getting the hang of things. Just hang in there, and as Kyudos says use Youtube and the tutorials. Good luck and god speed!

How do i start over? Where do i delete my save? I am within 7.5km of the station and i'm getting denied. The tutorials only show about how to fight and how to dock. I've done that but they are pretty bad as far as what to do in the free world.

Yes i've played Freelancer Discovery and it's much more user friendly than this game in every way.

To some extent that's the point - they are deliberately trying to avoid "telling you what to do" - you are meant to do whatever you want! True, they don't hand-hold you through the process, but it's not that difficult to work out....

I bet you only spent 5 minutes on x3 before rage quitting as that series have worse tutorials

Personally I found the sink or swim quite invigorating, but I know it's not to everyone's taste. With regards to your current issue though, where are you< What system and which dock?

You won't find a lot of hand-holding in this game. It's literally "here's a thousand credits and a Sidewinder, figure it out the rest". Tutorials kinda-sorta-not-really help, but that's where YouTube and the assortment of guides on the forums/interwebs come in, or do it the hard way. Once you get the hang of it, you'll never stop playing. Just gotta be patient. I've been playing since January and still learning new things.

Try heading back to SuperCruise and return to station, or log on and off. Or choose Self Destruct on the right-hand menu. Or when you start up the game, choose Delete Save.

It takes a little while to get into this game, but then it is awesome.

:D S

X3 was nasty but stuff flowed well from one menu to the next so it was easier to figure out. This game on the other hand feels very choppy like it's very incomplete. On X3 TC i have the hub completed just so you know how far i got.

Start by doing simple pirate hunting/Courier missions on the board of the station where you start and the surrounding stations in that system. Docking denied can be at outposts, not much landing pads there. Either wait a bit or exit/reenter the game.

I know most games these days have some sort of introductory area to get started in and maybe Elite would benefit from one but at least there is a link to the manual right in the launcher.

As far as worst experience getting started this game is nothing compared to Minecraft, where literally the only help you get is "Press E to open inventory" and for everything else the answer is Google.

Unfortunately the manual is as good as the training tutorials as far as what to do in the open world is concerned.

Tried again to relog and dock and same thing, access denied. Oh well thanks for the help to restart.

How far from the station are you? Within 7,500 meters? Do you have any maneuvering fuel left, or are you 100% bone dry?

Someone could probably hit you with a fuel limpet if they were close by, but if you're in the starter Sidewinder, it may be faster and easier for you to clear the save and start over. Pick up some easy cargo missions from the BB when you get back in and use those to finance getting into a larger ship. Once you start getting away from the Sidewinder, things get a bit easier as more options open up.

The learning curve can be something of a pain in the ass (which is the only reason why I mentioned the manual, hard to tell what you've done or not done from a forum post...) but just keep charging forward and you'll be off and running in short order.
