All Hail Sarah Jane - Mistress of the Minions

Last update was like phase #1... There's still a lot more to come...
So don't hail me, after all the combat AI is still a bit of a walkover right now and needs better tactics...

I agree, I get tired of them choosing the turn fight option involving only pitching upward. :)

It feels good that people are generally enjoying the AI update. :) There's much more on the way... Mama's teaching her little ones new tricks... ;)
I'll also be trying to appease everyone by making the lower ranks fun for beginners while ramping up the higher ranks for the more experienced player. Tricky perhaps, but at the end of the day the aim is to make the game fun for everyone. :) Oh, BTW I'm loving my work! :D Perhaps it shows...

Regarding docking could you make the ships not do that thing where they maneuver to the side, close to the entrance for a bit then thrust upward? I'd prefer a more epic 2001 style docking approach from a greater distance and then straight into the slot.

I also tried activating the computer while almost in the docking entrance only for it to back me right back out and follow its set routine by parking up and waiting in a queue (and almost killing me in the process). I guess this is how it needs to be?

As epic as you have made the safety of it all now with the queue system I now yearn for a bit of elegance to go hand in hand with the famous music.

Only a personal wish.. your work is awesome.

Though I hail SJA and her docking computer boost

I do question her sanity and the sanity she put into the docking computer

Whilst the docking computer works fine when approach stations and 90% of the time at starports as well

Its the other 10% which i have to question her sanity because after several successful docking on starports the docking computer will lose any sense of sanity and forget to level off from the insane perpendicular dive it does to thelaunch pad slamming me into the deck of the starport before then remembering to do a 90 degree turn righting itself

Whilst this is not fatal its damn annoying and does beg the question of the sanity of the docking computer

A *sane* docking computer? That's asking for too much. :)

The nausea-inducing rolls are bad enough.

Seriously, I've installed it on my trading ships, which dock all too often, and, except for one incident (nose-down into the hockey rink, as above), have worked well. Thank you, Oh Great Mistress Of AI's!

This will be resolved (along with a few other issues) in the next DC update. I've worked hard to make it a bit safer and... er... saner... ;) But I still managed to speed up parts a bit. It gets better with every iteration, so one day soon it'll be perfect. :)

What might be fun would be to include some soft of toggle switch in the cockpit that would let us CMDRs choose between "fast and wild" and "steady and safe". . . Just a thought

At which point it will network with the UK's Nuclear Arsenal... "Shall we play a game?" it asks.

Does the new AI rival Shivan Dragons yet? It's possible they never can with current ships and their limits but we can hope for the T people.

Just put your landing gear down before engaging the docking computer and it will land at a more sedate pace.

I'd like that when the docking computer is at less than 100% condition, then it occasionally boosts into the station wall? Make it unreliable when it is semi-broken. Just show a message first, so we know it's not a bug: "Docking computer malfunctioned." Aaagh! BOOM! :D

The same mechanic could be used to make harmless NPCs less good at docking as well. There should be some NPC rookies flying around space too.

Where is the fun in that? I do love the new docking speeds, although it having to queue does slow it down sometimes. At outposts it's fantastically quick.

Exactly and what some above refer to as insane behaviour and nausea-inducing rolls I think are the fun bit of using a docking computer. I hope Ms Avory does not tone down its behaviour any further (I say any further because it seems to me that it already pitches up into the level at outposts earlier than it used to).

Tone it down? Nah! I want to make it crazier (but safer of course) ! ;)

Thanks Sarah!

I had the best NPC fight of my life last night after my mission running Cobra was interdicted by an Elite Vulture. After about 20 minutes of hit and run tactics I finally took her down with 36% left on my hull and MCs on empty. Had to park up and get a nice cup of tea to wind down. Smashing!

Did it have railguns? I had to run from one with rails. For the first time in a long time I knew a NPC had me. It hit me 2 times, shields gone and hull 80%. I dont remember if it was in my Cobra or Asp.

Edit: I remember now, it was in Beta and I was flying a pimped up Diamond Back Scout. Elite Vultures are challenging or really deadly with the right weapons.
