Pips in supercruise,,

In 1.3 they "unlocked" so we could alter our pips in supercruise.
But does it serve any purpose?

Cant use weapons, so pips in weapons are useless.
Pips in engine. will that make the ship accelerate and de-accelerate faster?
Pips in System. will that make so we can sustain better heat damage when fuel scooping cuz systems handle the shields? Or build up shields faster when you enter supercruise with depleted shields?

Will pip management in supercruise have any affect on interdictions?

Well since shields do not insta-recharge its mainly so that if you jump away from a battle with 0 pips to systems you can re-allocate them without having to drop out of SC.

Also it allows you to pre-set pips for coming out of SC depending on if you are at a station, interdicted or whatever.

Absolutely it serves a purpose - on the way to a CZ I can now put 4 pips to weapons, or having taken a pasting 4 to Sys.
No brainer IMHO.

Well iam not complaing but I just wonder if the pips in supercruise matter. Not talking about pre-set for going into normal space etc. Just in supercruise :)

Easy enough, it lets you recharge any cap that isn't at full a bit faster if you like, or pre-set them where you'd like them for entering a fight or a station. Also if your shields aren't full and you've less than 2 in sys you can re-allocate so the cap doesn't drain on you.

In addition to what's already been said I like to adjust to the setting as preparation for interdiction to match what I'd like to have in the upcoming fight. Saves me doing it as I engage.

So pips in Sys let you help to recharge shields in supercruise faster. Again, iam not talking about to prepare to enter a fight etc, I wonder what pips do in supercruise :)
Sys is covered now il guess but what about engines?

For as long as the capacitor isn't drained by an ongoing recharge, Pips won't do anything really in SuperCruise.

It is extremely useful for preparation, though. Plus, the Pips Settings are maintained and remembered.
That's much better than getting everwhere in default 2/2/2 all the time ;)
Aye, I do agree to set the pips in preparation is darn useful. But iam an explorer and 99.9% of the time I go in supercruise. Ive tried to alter the pips to se if it make any difference, and I have not noticed anything. When it comes to engines, fuel scooping etc. Hence I started this post if pips management in supercruise is just for preparation. Or if someone els have found reasons to do pip management in supercruise :)

I'm sorry. I misread the thread title. I thought it said "Pigs in supercruise".

Oh well. Have a gratuitous pig. In supercruise...

I like it. Personally I have a couple of different power configurations I run my ship with if I'm getting places, docking or in combat. If I was traveling in supercruise and get interdicted I like to know I can switch to combat mode before I'm having to shoot it out, not after, so for that I welcome the change.
