Are the hard points supposed to track the target?

Hi everyone

first off this game is the shizniz. Secondly. In trading the hard point guns self tracked the target. Is this only in training or on certain guns?

There are three versions of weapons(some only have one version like Rail Guns which are fixed only) Fixed, Gimbaled(limited tracking straight ahead), and Turret(self explanetory). Look at the symbol after the weapon name to see which type you're looking at it also says it in the little description of the weapon.Hope this helped.

There's three types of weapon - fixed, gimballed and turreted.

The guns in training are generally gimballed, iirc.

Gimballed are more expensive than fixed, but slightly weaker. They will lock on to a target ahead of you, within a limited arc.

Turreted are more expensive and slightly weaker again, but track wider and can fire independently - usually used on bigger ships (Python and above).

The free pulse lasers you get with a ship are always fixed.

Edit - ninja'd!

Turreted weapons also use slightly less power than Gimballed and Fixed weapons but as felicitous blue stated they are weaker than Gimballed. However... Gimballed and Turreted weapons can lose their lock from certain modules on Utility hardpoints. Turrets have this nasty little feature of being very versatile though as you can see the fire mode of your turrets in the Ship Setting menu of your UI.
