What are merits?

Hi simple question

What are merits and why would I want them? How do they help my fraction and more importantly me!

Where can you see a tally of the total merits you have earned?

Also where's my space chicken tika, the delivery driver is late again.

In game: Merits increase your Rank with your pledged to power of choice :) I don't know the specific numbers but X amount of merits = X amount of rank..

What ranks are available?

Why isn't my space pizza here yet? I ordered extra spicy chunks of space ferret with hot cheese baked to perfection at the nozzle of a plasma accelerator?

Seriously, what ranks are available and what benefits are there to going up in rank with a power?

We're all hoping that question will be answered in version 1.4... :)
Merits are money...everybody complains that taking part in Power Play means loss...and I am already above 1500 merits after less than 2 weeks (and I did not play that hard since merits kinda accumulate over the time), granting me 5 millions at the end of the current cycle.
It sounds like the reward for community goal, doesn't it?

Now if only one would get merits proportional to how important his actions are... :-/

The problem being that you've made 5 million credits in the past two weeks of Powerplay, whereas I've made 5 million credits in the past couple of hours of half-ed trading in between working and reading forums...

Powerplay is a loss in that it's just not worth one's time.

I'm bored of trading it's the only reason I'm trying this new feature. But it's only moving more cargo so it's just lost it's shine for me. I'm going to go do some fighting in a viper. I've got credits to spare so I'll see how many merits I can generate with it.

Trading is over powered, that's the problem. And I, personally, find it boring.
I have a 268T Python but refuse to use it for grind-trading. I trade only during community goals (which have become pretty boring since everybody else is doing power Play stuff).

I have had fun undermining / opposing other Powers and get 5.5 millions after 3 weeks? Fair enough.

If you have plenty of credits to spare, a large ship, use the fast-track option BUT go prepare/fortify ONLY the systems which are worth it and need it. And in the end, get 50 millions for 10000 merits and the satisfaction to have helped achieve something for your power.

And for all the other ones complaining that grind-trading is more profitable, keep doing it until you get a mountain of credits, wonder what to do with and complain that the game is boring.

Definitely fair enough - whatever you find fun is the thing to do! :)

I'm not sure trading is overpowered, though; as a somewhat casual player, it's taken me two months to get to ~130 million.

I don't think trading is overpowered, if for no other reason than the price you pay is that you turn a perfectly good game into a job of attrition. Credits aren't everything, I'm having just as much fun in this game flying vipers and exploring. Trouble with computer generated procedual universes like this is that it will always lose the human touch in story telling and excitement. Then again this universe will go on forever whereas written stories end in a few dozen hours.

But hey...
at least it's better than hitting endless goblins with sticks then wondering why this goblin is carrying on that loot... I mean... WHERE DID HE PUT IT? Up his bum?

At least Elite loot makes more sense.

go to opposing power "controlled" system and "undermine" by shooting their powers ships.. 15 merits per kill. Do not attack other powers aligned to same major faction tho (e.g Empire, Federation)

Merits are de tings dey give you , like in da movies wif army men gettin' in truble so they like get demerit.

*coughs*
*I'll leave now.*
