Suggest we stop telling people don't fly what you cannot afford to lose...

.. but instead tell people not to fly what they are not willing to lose!

I think this should be the actual message and for a simple reason. Sometimes we see people getting upset over being killed by a "griefer" or just sore because the lost their ship for one reason or another.

A usual comment is something like "It will now take me x hours of grinding to earn the money back".

After my recent tour of the powers in a Sidewinder, where i was killed 3 times by commanders, I realized, if i was flying my Orca now, i'd be quite a lot of money down and probably be annoyed at the cash loss and at the people who attacked me. However, the insurance on the sidewinder is a joke, and took the deaths in good humour.

Yes, i know we like to fly the biggest baddest ships we can afford and still have money left over for insurance once or twice, but then each loss is an emotional blow as you realize the effort required to get back the money you lost. Unless of course you have bags of credits spare and you don't care about it.

So, i think telling people not to fly what they are not willing to lose (as well as can afford) is a good way to drive the message home about the cost of ship loss.

Out of things to talk about huh? <3

I'll bite though, I think they go hand in hand. That's just me. If you can't afford to lose it, you probably aren't willing to lose it. You can still lose something without being willing. Anyhow, down the rabbit hole.

and that's why I only fly a Cobra. Well aside from its fast and looks real cool.

Isn't it great that you can still do everything? People get caught up in this grind to try and attain a 580m (fully fitted combat conda) ship, when it just isn't needed to play any part of the game. I might actually stop at a Clipper.

I've always tried to explain to the person they should focus on the best choice for them on WHERE to fly and not WHAT to fly. As well as HOW to fly (with or without insurance). However, as in life, eople make bad choices. I'm not sure how to fix that.

You can't, you shouldn't try, and neither should the developers.

Oh you misunderstood...I don't suppose to tell them...I just let them know their CHOICE is what was important. They actively chose where they want to play, chose what they want to fly, and chose to fly with or without insurance. Their choices led them to the end they came to. So they need to choose wisely...or at least differently in the future.

It is if the game you're playing rather involves attaining one. Mountain climbing is very much part of this experience for most people. Combat rank is my personal mountain ... after that, maybe a Conda just to worry you ...:D

Flying without insurance has routinely been apart of my playing style as of late. (Mostly in Solo, I'm not that crazy!) I recently got into a Type 9 & I'm quite honestly at the point where I don't really care. If I lost it all I know enough about the game that I would have no problem getting back up to where I am now.
