What's the whole thing with "Onionhead"?
I've googled it, I've searched the forums, all I get is that it's some sort of rare commodity. Dictionary said it's a slang for new military recruits.
Or is it slang for something else that I don't know about?
I'm not exactly "in the know" with most of the Elite lingo due to being a newcomer to the franchise (to be honest, I never knew it existed until I came across Elite: Dangerous), so tldr what's "Onionhead"?

Onionhead is a narcotic that was grown as a cash crop in Kappa Fornacis on the planet Panem, though it was original from HIP 55118, the planet has been terriformed.
The Federation outlawed it, which resulted in increased demand and profit for smugglers.
So the Federation invaded Kappa Fornacis and virus bombed the planet with a Onionhead targeting bio-weapon
The Federation then assisted with the rebuild so the farmers Union of Kappa Fornacis could produce legal crops
The Farmers Union of Kappa Fornacis transferred production to a system call Tanmark, and produced Lucan Onionhead which was different enough to side step the Federal Ban.
Unfortunately this cultivar of Onionhead died out as it wasn't fertile, but by the time that happened Panem was ready to start growing the original Onionhead again.
The Federation was bogged down with the War in Lugh at this point and Onionhead has so far escaped any repeat attempts by the Federation to stamp it out again.

Onionhead is simply an in-game narcotic. It is a trafficable good, illegal in most systems, and only available from a few systems (generally there are Galnet news items about it being grown on Panem and ?Kappa Fornacis etc.
Not sure on the pricing, or if the price, like rare items, increases as you take it further away from the source (I'd suspect so).
Its just background story, an underlying motivation for the NPC Ceti sector cartels manoevring for power (i.e. the current Ceti Security Initiative community goal in and around Autahenetsi).
I like it, adds some depth.

Onionhead -What is that About?
Always wondered about this until I tried playing that GHOSTBUSTERS video game via STEAM. It's nick name they have for that greenish Slimer ghost.

It's what everyone means when they use the word immersion. They are immersing them selves in onions up to their head.
