The age of the Pulse Lasers

Not going to try to argue why this is. You cant convince me otherwise and if you dont see it for yourself then I cannot help you so this thread is just a question to the devs who might read this.
When can we expect the age of the Pulse Lasers to end? When can we expect a weapon balance overhaul?
 
I don't get it. I use Beam lasers exclusively (except on my Vulture) as they're awesome. In what way are we in an "age of pulse lasers"?
 
Pulse lasers do about double the damage per energy that beams do, so unless you can sustain energy in your cap while firing (which no ship can) you're lowering your overall dps using anything else.
 
I'd def wish that beams were greater than pulse lasers and fixed were greater than gimballed.

Also seem to have lost the firing sound of beam lasers since 1.2. Only seem to get the noise of hitting the enemy.
 
When power plant sniping is no longer a thing, other weapons will become useful again.
This. Also try to snipe PP with Beams.... then try Pulses..... you wont go for beams ever again.
PS: Im flying an Anaconda so all other weapon systems are wastly inferior to pulses. I should have said this but thank you CommieMittens for also seeing how broken Pulses are.

Not true. Whilst my FDL isn't cap stable it can sustain the 2 medium beam lasers for long enough to destroy anything Cobra/Vulture and smaller without needing to stop firing and it can strip the shields off anything bigger in that time. Swap to 3 cannons when shields are gone and blammo to anything really. I found that beams work a lot better than pulse on the FDL.

Got no real energy issue with a single beam on an Imperial Couriers, but I never seem to find a class 2 fixed pulse laser, so I can't try. Anyway, beams are so much more satisfying to fire.
 
I use Class 2 beams on my Clipper. It can fire them practically indefinitely with 4pips to weapons (the ship overheating is more of a problem).
 
Well Im mainly talking about the Anaconda since if you try anything else than Pulses they fail. They are just too great for sniping out PP. Dropping Pythons with 60% hull left pretty fast. Beams suck for PP sniping.

Again I have to disagree. With my FTL I definitely have better luck hitting the PP with beams rather than pulse lasers. Perhaps this is ship specific?

When sniping = putting gimbaled weapons on your ship and keeping the opponent in view, yeah pulse lasers are ok.

I still prefer the huge plasma for wrecking subsystems myself. You're right about the FDL being able to keep 2 C2 fixed beams running for a very long time.

Just to clarify: I am talking about gimballed wepaons in all cases.
Hmmm odd. I tried Beams but they just dont dmg the subsystems that much.... (they have less penetration as the UI states) so I think this is normal and this is the problem. They are MUCH harder to fit. Require MUCH more energy and do less dmg...... meh....
PS: Experimenting with Bursts but they have the same DPS as pulses... so why are they burtsts? I see no benefit in them apart from almost double the power cost.... another meh....

Ignore the bars.

Pulse lasers are highest DPE, lowest DPS. Beam lasers are the opposite. Burst lasers are between.

Energy efficiency seems to be the order of the day, thanks to giant shields we see, along with the Pulse being a bit more effective against subsystems apparently.

The basic power need, as well as the capacitor drain kind of hurts the non pulse lasers.
