Noob saying hi. Also, can anyone point me in tge right direction?

Hey everyone.
A veteran gamer here, I remember this on the Spectrum, although I did not own it back in the day. I tried the demo and thought why not? So here I am all noobish. I've enjoyed the training so far but I'm kinda overwhelmed a little. Also struggling with combat in the tutorials. A dogfight against a similar ship and it keeps kicking my backside. Where should I start for basics and how to get going? I must admit the tutorials and videos on the game have not been of any great help.

Thanks

I skipped all but the first combat tutorial. you can always go back later. do the docking and undocking and system travel and the first 2 trainers.

the key is, get into space and learn how to move about, before fretting about enemy fire.

I have not done a single mission or spent or earned a single credit. But I have gotten better and flying the ship, blowing up my ship and using the FSD.

At this point, I've reconfigured my controls completely, so I have to get used to that again.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I will skip most of the tutorial as advised, do the docking, undocking and system travel and get used to the controls more. The game just feels like something I'll really enjoy, I just need to get past the initial learning curve, jump in at the deep end and enjoy!

the combat tutorials is jumping in the deep end of the pool going in to the game itself is more like getting thrown to the wolfs.

As has been said previously, for turning - vary your throttle to keep it in the blue zone and accelerate to catch/escape the hostile. When you have your head around the basic flight controls try to bring in using your thrusters to keep out of any incoming fire just like Strafing on any FPS game but you get to strafe in 4 vectors rather than 2. This way you can try and stay out of the firing solution for non-turreted weapons. As a starting point for the game, I ran the Sidewinder for a while ding little courier missions with the occasional bit of smuggling to get my creds up then bought the Adder and have been upgrading it to be a blockade runner (upgraded FSD, Thrusters, Shield Gen, Cargo rack (8 tons), picked up a point defense system on one of the systems - poss Ervate, Everate... I cant remember the exact spelling. This way you get used to the docking procedures, learn a little about the basics of trading but your not jumping straight into "I'm going to go blow the Crap out of the Capital Ship!" frame of mind until you have a capable ship. Bear in mind you don't get any money returned when upgrading from the Sidewinder so you can leave it in storage IF yo want a small fighter to upgrade in the mean time. The medicinal "tobacco" smuggling missions can be quite lucrative depending on how large the shipment or where its going to but be prepared for a fine if you get scanned in any system that your cargo is classed as illicit.

All in all though, just enjoy and find out which ideas you like, Go exploring - Go and Check out a planets rings, like really close, even when you think your're close keep on getting closer - really impressive.

Enjoy Commander, See you around the Galaxy
