Finding illegal black market goods in space?

So after flying a viper for a little while, making money off of in-system bounties I wanted to do something a little more devious in game. I sold my kitted out viper for a diamonback explorer and have fitted it with the bare necessities.

The ship is extremely fun, and quite powerful. I've quickly become comfortable with:

  1. Interdicting ships
  2. Hammering their shields
  3. Limpeting their cargo
  4. Destroying the ship
  5. Scoop various cargo
  6. Going to a station
  7. Silent run dock
  8. Use a black market to sell the goods.

The only problem is that I can't seem to find much loot out there that will let me make more of a profit than combat in RES sites would off of pure bounties - which has become more boring and far less risky. Does anyone have any tips on smuggling? Some stations I know of take the illegal goods, but I find it difficult to find the profitable stuff. Buying slaves from point A and selling at point B for a marginal profit isn't really that fun.

Any tips on how to make this more profitable, without just making station runs?

Piracy missions might give it more of an objective, though it is just more of the same of what you've been doing (though with some extra credits)

@adrinker Get friendly/allied with a minor faction you aspire to, then take on board their bulletin board missions?

I... cough... a 'friend' regularly gets job offers for 90k+ to smuggle in only 4 tons of narcs for example.

Hello Sir! Was that the Chap Phone? I'm in a good mood so I thought I'd drop a few nice bits of info.

Find a system with Ships Seeking goods. They will pay 10000+ cr per tonne for Narcotics. I just earned quite a sum doing this at 1200cr profit for travelling less that 100ls. (No scans. Fast docking is not my thing unless I must). My chaps are between two very close orbiting small planetoids that throw the region in to absolute darkness. I suggest you take a look around Utopian systems or systems with conflict zones and check points. I am pledged to the local Power so military interdiction see my papers and wave me on. I'm also allied with the local faction so system security tend to leave me alone.

Or if you want some more adventure. Go to Hectae and do missions for the Brotherhood of Terra Mater at RHJ1972 station, until they give you a Permit to Terra Mater. Once you get your Permit you will be able to enter Terra Matter, where you will be able to get hold of a unique illegal rare good, plus have a base where only Permit holders can Hyperspace too. Very useful for losing tails. Plus Terra Matter has a very nice supply of Narcotics and legal goods. I think you can also off load dodgy basic meds to the local traveling sales men at maximum profit.

I don't trade slaves.

Good luck and think outside of the letter box
