Warning: Elite Dangerous Online Store Purchases

I would just like to make sure everyone knows this...

By backing the game on the online store you are not entitled to ANY kind of bonuses that you would through Kickstarter and the only thing you will get is either Beta or Alpha access.

No ships, No credits, No decals, No paintjobs, you get absolutely nothing.

Unfortunately I was too excited for the game to come out and purchased the 200GBP online Alpha package before reading the fine print, assuming that it would carry with it at least comparable recognition as something similarly valued on Kickstarter since the link from the Kickstarter page goes directly to the website and it's online store.

I was very wrong.

If you purchase anything through the website you won't even be entitled to as much as the person who backed for 1GBP on Kickstarter.

Miss the Kickstarter by only six days, get basically nothing.

I sincerely hope that Frontier fixes this issue or they are going to have a lot more dissatisfied customers when they realize that they dropped approximately $350 for none of the bonuses other backers get (outside of access).

That is a shame. Even though I am one of the lucky ones (found the game 6 day BEFORE KS ended) I would still support new founders getting all or most of the perks.

The perks were for early backers. You waited until Alpha was released (for whatever reason)

The early backers took the risk on vapourware and got some perks.

I actually downgraded my kickstarter once it was clear it would fund to avoid starting with more than 100c and a sidewinder.

I agree.

I don't mean to sound harsh but the kickstarter has finished now. the various perks were to encourage people to invest in what was basically just an idea nothing more.
the Retail phase will begin soon and we have some actual concrete proof there will be a very good game. people who buy the different packages from the new store now should not expect the same level of perks, it would not be fair to the early backers who lets face it, took quite a risk with their money IMO.

You do get starter ship and credits.

If you did get all the perks offered to early backers, do you not thing that would be a bit of kick in the teeth to the rest of us who backed and have waited over a year?

The kickstarter was completed in January 2013 - Then there has been a prolongation of several months in the old store. Frontier to informed at least 15 days in advance that the old store is ended 6-9 December and the new store will not propose the rewards. But for £ 200, you make still a bargain. You have the alpha, the two betas, the commercial version, and any future expansions.

An early backer decal worth more than the full game?

I understand that you may be disappointed due to recklessly buying on impulse especially when you failed to examine what you were actually receiving. Yet even with that being so there is no reason to twist reality in an attempt to come off like a victim.

There is nothing hidden or deceptive on the Frontier store as it is all clearly laid out.

You do serve as a good example of those who get caught up in hype and act upon impulse, I suppose that is a positive at least.

New buyers can not be considered true backers. They are customers who purchase a pre-order product, whose characteristics are detailed since one year and more.

Sorry, but I disagree with this. I can't agree with an opinion that splits people into "true backers" and "not true backers".
We all want a fantastic game regardless of whether we gave our money today, November the 5th 2012 or even been on this forum since April 2008 asking Frontier why they weren't making Elite IV (that's referring to myself in case anyone wondered).

*sigh* I have to agree with Alien on this one *sob*

Indeed. I mean how far do you take such an idea? People who backed on Kickstarter would be true backers, yeah? What about those who only backed once kickstarer ended, but before the new shop opened? Not true backers? Late backers? Line backers? Erm no sorry wrong genre. :p Then those who only bought into the game once the new shop opened?

Giving labels to people based on when they backed the game is silly and doesn't help the community feeling of the forum at all. How do you think new people coming here would feel about us if they think we look down on them for being 'late'? There is a strong community spirit here at E: D, I'd love to see that continue well into the future once the game is launched and beyond. Let's not spoilt by subdividing ourselves in classes of backer or anything else.

Well said Alien! In the end we are all Elite fans, regardless even if some of us couldn't support the kickstarter or even buy the game via the store right now. The important thing is your here, your part of the community and no matter your backer status, your welcome. :)

Aye, come on now. No us and them - just players. ;)
I'm sorry for anyone who missed the KS, especially not being able to visit the Founders world. However, maybe this option will be in the store for a few quid, maybe even the starting positions too. I think if such a thing were to happen then it would have to be more expensive than what the KS backers paid.
It's still going to be a fantastic game. :)

Minti2

Deadly, But very fluffy...
Sorry, but aren't people already doing this, with their banners stating that they are either Alpha or beta backers?

Wrong Wrong Wrong!.....there is always a us and them !.. The Glorious Empire and the feeble Federation...i don't count the worthless Alliance! :p

but apart from that, all players together...some just have extra tags!

Edit actually MortVader is right in a way as in having labels, but certainly not looking down on others.

Not quite the same thing. The banners are just saying that's what they have done or are doing etc, not looking down on others and saying "you're not a true backer like I am". A backer is a backer, Alpha, Beta, or any other of the options there were.
