When people use the word imagination, they will often use it to mean immersion. Not pretending that there's stuff in the game that isn't there.
Example:
When exploring it's rather easy for me to get immersed into the feeling I am buzzing through vast unexplored space alone in my Asp. As opposed to playing a game where my 3D model of an Asp buzzes through a simulation of vast unexplored space.
This will lead to a different playing style. Someone who is immersed in the game will not shoot at NPCs for the lolz. Someone who is immersed in the game will not mind the 500,000ls long travel to a distant star whilst occupying themselves, because that gels with the immersion. Someone who is immersed in the game will not make use of gamey exploits, because that would break immersion.
Posting to increase cultural learnings from Ziggy for make benefit glorious game of Elite : Dangerous.
Now when I use imagination, I do pretend to be a Space alien from Mars who only will land where people sparkle.
