Turrets now useful, but still get you in trouble...

I fly my Python with two class 2 beam turrets, mainly for pesky Eagles I'm too lazy to get in a turning match with. Was in the process of killing a pirate in a Conda, when a System security Conda just had to push its way in between the less than a kilometer distance I had from him. The beam turrets cut two lines across his top deck. Instant bounty on me and all security turned red in an instant, forgetting all about fighting the pirate gang... I thought friendly fire was now handled better? If this causes a bounty, then FD should give us key binds and better turret controls. Right now, there's no way to pause your turrets from firing, unless you have them set to 'target only' and then un-target your target, which would not only be an annoyance but also defeat the main purpose for the turrets to have them fire at other targets than the one you're targeting.

If you change to a weapon group without the turrets, they will stop firing.
But you are correct, I am sure it was stated that turrets would no longer trigger a FF unless you actually pressed a fire button while targeting an innocent.

Good work-around, thanks much!

Turrets will fire on a wanted target just before the main scan finishes letting you know they're wanted - highly frustrating as gives you a fine

No, they will not start fire on itself. You need to press a Fire button first.

I do not know what was stated, but turrets definitely CAN do a FF. It happend to me couple of times, the last incident of this kind I had yesterday. 400 Cr fine and wanted. Luckily, I was able to jump to SC and fly to station where I waited couple of minutes, make a jump and payed the fine.

I had my three class 3 pulse lasers on mouse button one and the two class 2 beam turrets on mouse button 2 in the same fire group (set to 'fire at will').................................................the turrets would not start to fire until I'd press mouse button 2, so that part worked fine for me, they never fired without my activation. But they wouldn't stop firing if I pushed the button again................................... switching to another fire group that has only the pulse lasers in it should work a charm but I haven't gotten around to testing it yet. Motorcycle fixing came first ;-) ..................................................

trust me, they do trigger without the initial scan completing - not everytime, enough times though - trigger finger well away.

Just put the wappons out when you need it.
Or are you running around with your best friend outside if you dont need him ? :)

Had exactly the same with the burst laser turrets on my Python two days ago. Shooting up an NPC pirate when a system defence eagle flies through the beams. Instant cop target, a fine and a quick depart to SC to wait out the timer!

If turrets auto fire on a friendly the manufacturer of the software of said turrets should become WANTED.

They are automated systems after all, if they go mad and start trying to murder people the manufacturer needs to be held responsible.

Fire at Will or Fire at Target ?
I am currently working on the theory that all the nice immunities that were mentioned in release notes apply to Fire at Will ONLY

Mine were set to "fire at will" when this happened. While there were more pirates, they weren't in wing, so there was only one target red to me. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . My turrets were still aiming at that ship, just without realizing they couldn't hit the target through friendly ships.
