Cheesed off.

(No, this is not a "I'm quitting" thread, more a "I'm *insert swear words* annoyed and need to rant")

I just played earlier, I started with 30m (credits and ship value) and in under 40 mins I'd lost over 5 million credits. :(

First I sold my Asp and Switched to a T7 for some trading (losing some 2.4m in the process.. No idea how)
Then after several unsuccessful trades. (Best profit was 362cr per ton, biggest loss was -163cr per ton)
Got fed up with trading (yes, that fast) and sold the T7 for another Asp only to lose even more money in the process?

Anyway.. It ended up with me in the same ship I started in but over 5m down on the night, this is going to take me 2-3 days to recover to where I was. So yeah, I'm rather cheesed off right now :(

Thanks for listening to my moan, I'm off to play something else to calm down ;)

As my grandpappy always used to tell me "never expose your Asp, otherwise it may get bit" or something to that effect, we live, we learn, we learn to avoid T7's :) Hang in there CMDR.

First mistake was selling the Asp. Never sell an Asp. It's proper the game penalises anyone selling an Asp. (Sorry for the rest of your loss).

You lose 10% of your total ship value when you sell your ship. It has done that with every ship you have sold so far, and it even tells you your sell price before you make the switch. This is normal. For now, make sure you downgrade and sell all components on your ship before you sell it so you don't take a 10% hit on your modules as well (will be changed soon). No matter what you do, you will loose money selling a ship.

The worst thing you can do is sell ship A to buy ship B, then turn around and sell ship B to buy ship A... all the while, never stripping the ship down before selling.

10% of your total ship value = 10% of ship hull price + 10% of the installed modules.
To minimize the cost, sell all your modules, and replace FSD, powerplant, etc by lesser class rank E.

You should be aware that the resell value of any ship is 10% less than it's purchase price. With that, you should sell or down grade all of the modules/gear you equipped. You would have loss far less in the process.

Best strategy is to strip the old ride to the rivets and park it, don't sell it. Buy the new ride and make some profit to cover any losses if it turns out not to be what you want, and go back to the old ride buy stripping the new ship then sell the hull.

Conservation of earned credits should always be a top priority if you want to move forward and be able to try new stuff.

Not sure what your complaint is or what you are doing to get it all so wrong in one night tbh.

2-3 days play (after how many months play?) is nothing at all.

You have been in the game quite a while now - do you really not understand the mechanics yet?

What's the point you are trying to make?

That is of course correct, but i wasn't even going to mention that. OP has been around long enough, surely that would be common knowledge to him ?

The trading bit sounds like he just bought some random stuff, flew off and simply hoped to turn a profit....without actually checking local commodity markets first.

Just don't sell any ships, that's the easiest way... why take 10% on the chin? The later ships are an investment - you should hang on to them.

Not actually complaining about anything. Just a "oh heck, I really messed up tonight and I'm royally miffed" kind of post.

I don't quite follow how unsuccessful trades can happen...? I mean, you don't have to sell, and there are plenty of methods of finding out where you'll make a profit.

The only time I take a loss is when I've wanted to empty my cargo hold for a mission and I can't be bothered to find somewhere sensible to sell.

The problem with 10% loss is I still pay full price for a used ship. And there were boogers under the dash!

To be fair, the game doesn't tell you that you're losing money when you sell the ship, it tells you how much you're getting, but you have to do a bit of work to see how much you paid for it total. I went several weeks when I first started playing without realizing that selling a ship lost me money.

I can totally understand someone being at Asp level without realizing this. The game should really be more clear about it.

It's ok and I'm certainly not asking them to change it. I usually fly my cobra or Asp, it was the first time for a looooong time that I've actually sold a ship. I won't make that mistake again in a hurry ;)

To add insult to injury, I'm flying on my first mining run since getting my Asp back and I'm mugged and killed in the RES, another half million credits gone.

It's just not my day ;)

Join the #1 ranked empire chick. There's warzones EVERYWHERE. And you get your voucher +50% and then some? I'm making ~2 million every 20 minutes. It's awesome. Trading is sucky now...which is okay since I've spent about 4 straight months trading.

Edit:
Bounties count too! $40k bounty becomes $60k. I'm constantly surprised. I killed some random guys and got about $300k from it when I went back to the station.
