Can you kill a station?

The question is simple. Can you kill a station? Do they have hitpoints? Can they take damage?

If a hundred players showed up and shot at a station (32 per instance), could it die?

Has anyone tried?

It might be futile and suicide but if you could coordinate 32 players to turn up in large ships and open fire on a station it would make a damned good screenshot!

And careful, stations can turn into piracy! That is why the contact panel shows a "local bounty" field... ;)
Wondering if you could give a "wanted" status to a station the same way capital ships may become wanted..?

Well, stations have Hull and Shield values, so it could be done in theory... in practice, I doubt it unless players have access to capital ships.

Actually yes, you may damage them if you ram them at full speed! But you would need a lot of rammers to do that.
No no, i'm not trying to troll the rammers... :0)

how about one of the smaller refinery platforms? Maybe they'd be possible to take down?

Nope.. Been discussed in quite a few topics in the past.

Edit - Did the Capship Nevermore receive damage when it exchanged fire with hudson dock? The station was definitely at 100% when I visited soon after, just googled and apparently the station went down to 26%

Anyway, stations/outposts can never be destroyed. Perhaps Alien attacks will change all that in the future :/

Destroying a station should not be in game.
However damaging it, leading to an impact on its production, could be a possibility in the future..?

It would be kind of cool that station or outpost can have a state of 'under attack' and a contract system for players to hire protection with an alert system for faction players. This would open up a whole new form of game play and another step away from having things too easy and static in a game advertised as a 'cutthroat galaxy'. Imagine faction fleets coming in for protection and engineers needed to repair a station or outpost to get services up and running again. It could even have an impact on economy. Make this game a real sandbox please.

There I soooo much potential in all this ideas! I love them. But for this (damage model, NPCs to interact, background sim,...) it needs a much bigger Dev-Team.

I'll be dreaming of my docking procedure tonight: "Elgered to imperial Station: coming in hot, requesting emergency docking procedure!" "Station to incoming Vessel: Docking request denied! We're under heavy fire!" "Elgered to Station! I'm coming in on any free Pad! I've got my cargobay full for you!" "Again request denied!" -Wham-Bam-crack-BOOOM" You were fined 200 Cr. - PAFF - Mission failed. You may payout your Conda or restart in a Sidey...

We will never be aber to alter to visible universe.
The game engine cannot distribute changes of this kind. All ist hard placed or generated procedural with the same seeds. Down to each asteroid. Thats the reason why you can't destroy a simple asteroid too.
Only global values, like market prices and powers can be altered by players, because, that are the serverbased data.

I don't think the idea would be for it to be destroyed permanently. It would be nice if it could be disabled for a while and could be repaired over time (by players ideally, but that's maybe asking too much of FD).

That's an interesting idea. The only thing the station would be good for would be bulletin board and contacts, and only some landing pads would be functional. The bulletin board can send out a community goal to rebuild the station.

Just because a certain seed ends up with the same result, it doesn't mean that you can't alter the initial seed to change the result. This is exactly how stations have been added to the game since release, other stations being changed to outposts and vice-versa, etc, etc.

It's certainly possible to do a lot of things with the stations.

But the problem is, that the players are instanced. So if one player alter the visible universe (a station or asteroid for example) this change have to be visible to all players, but only the players in the instance where the station is beeing attacked will see the reason why it is exploding.
The other problem is, you cant change a seed to remove a single object. So you have to remove the object after generating all others. This object removal information will grow over time while players destroying more and more asteroids for example. And every time a player entering this spot, that information have to be transfered.

He can...
