It's time to yell at a brick wall - aka.. Request something to be done about trading

My argument has nothing to do with the value of profit possible. It has to do with changing how that profit is obtained. Since there is no good argument against fixing trading, the people who want this free lunch make it about "jealousy" or nerfing. Both are baseless nonsense arguments and only serve to distract people from rallying behind actually fixing this broken aspect of the game.

You know what.... FD should never have had any ships with more than 20T trading capacity.

I knew it was going to be a problem when I saw news of the big playable trading ships back in the kickstarter days.

Basically trading scales up too much.

If combat scaled up like trading you would have a fleet of automated ships under your control going for the kills, same for mining a fleet of mining ships.

They made trading too uber.

What to do about trading now ? TAXES, BIG ONES !!!!!

And more frequent interdictions so it is not so boring and grindy.

Come on FD get profitability/risk/reward of trading closer to the other professions and make it more eventful.

Big taxes for ships with greater than 20T cargo to rebalance the game.

By the way, I am a trader, but I find it too easy and too profitable, it is like being in fields where someone has put silver coins everywhere just to pick up.

From my point of view we need to look at this positively rather than to spoil the game for many because you think trading is too easy. Hence my comment about nerfing trading as you originally suggested. If we look to improve mining then we end up with a win-win rather than a loose-loose.

Jason S, no one is forcing you to get a bigger ship and take on what is often a very boring couple of hours trading. But there is no need to whinge or persecute those that do. I have only been playing for 3 months and I don't generally go for the Phew Phew
of combat, But I mine and trade and I take on missions and I think the game is great for what I want to do.

There is a need as it greatly unbalances the game.

OP is not wrong, but neither are some others.

If trading would be dangerous, then the profits could be well earned. But it is not.

Unfortunately trading atm. is the easiest and fastest, and the least dangerous thing to do.

I am not saying the other activities are dangerous, I am just saying that trading is the least dangerous. You just basically run between A<->B, and you repeat this hours, watching movies and/or browsing some crap.

You are not watching movies while bounty hunting? Nor you do that while you are mining? Nor you do that what ever else you are doing? So I see no sense to protect trading.

If you are not doing something else while trading, I do not know what to say.. You should try it?

edit..

You are actually watching movies while exploring. But exploration income is rather far from Trade income ;)

Yes, and exploring is more dangerous as you can loose months of profit and you are a long way from home for repairs.

Wot unfortunate bout dis? o-O

MMORPG game has 5 classes.

Warrior class is 4 times better than any other class. The 4 other classes are never played, someone could ask why those were even created.

"Unfortunately", That just is a word that fits the situation imho.

Minin need profit buffs? Yes. Dat notin to do wid tradin.

There are 4 classes that are more or less in balance, and 1 class that is 4 times better than the rest?

It would be easier to bring down this one class, right? Than try to improve the other 4?

But I agree that it would make the game even grindier, and it would mean that they would need to decrease the high end ship/module prices.

Another thing is that it could be only temporary solution, because the real issue is that the rest of the professions are not scaling like trading.

I still think it is ok to fix something for now, so that things are ok for now. Then fix those well with time. But leaving those broken for 7 months? I think that is just, not smart.

If trading income would be like it is now.. But you would get it only when you do trade to Anarchy system, and you would definitely get interdicted 2 times, and each time by Elite Anacondas. If you do that alone you would be dead for sure. You would need a wing to protect you. Then I think trading could have this income, and there would actually be wings content even. I would like that.

To be honest, I do not even care how they balance the economy, I just would like them to balance it. But instead in 1.3, they buffed trade income -> I do not have nice words to add.

No. Dere no classes here :D

Mentality of 'balance' an 'mmorpg classes' not workin wid dis dynamic. Round pegs, square holes. Got to find anoda frame work to work wid.

ED givin all mons choices of how wi spendin time. Got to shed de 'dis mmorpg - most credits = bigga ship = highest level/end game'. Got to recognize wot we enjoy doin. Gud ting wi got a lot of choices!

Wi like chill? Want reliable credits? Enjoy monotony? Relax? Trade! Makin most credits/hour not de game for many mons. Fah som, sure. An dem trade.

Action? Adrenaline? Sometin else. Maybi fight? CZ? Oder mons? RES? Piracy? BH? More excitin. Pay not so great. No worries, mon playin fah action, right?

Likin seein new ting? Explore. Get out dere an see wot dere to see. Be nice to see more tings. More variety. Still, choice be dere.

Likin starin at space spuds an risking limb scoopin ore/sanity workin drones? Minin! An yes, dis choice needin luv!

No here be de kicker: No classes an not needin to get most credits/biggest ship 'to be end game' meanin we can mix an match, swap an change playchoices. Mi trade to equip big ship. Mi bare rare flyin big ship - not for looong time. Mi smuggle for fun in small ship when mi wantin de fun of smugglin. An me minin when mi relaxin, but dis less dese days. Future? Goin to explore. Neva givin BH a go - mi not police!

Can be havin fun wid 'enuff' credits - enuff to run de ship wi findin fun, fah doin wot we be findin fun! :D

Eh trading, for the most part, is fine and completely workable. Though I would like some consistency. Too many times I have bought a commodity at high supply, took it to an appropriate purchasing system with high demand for that item and actually end up losing money. I don't think that should ever happen. Only if you're an idiot who buys high and sells low should you lose money. Make supply and demand actually mean something.

And I would also like the other commodities that are only there for filler right now to get some attention. Providing the supply and demand are the same, different commodities should give similar profits. Only difference would be cost of commodity. Obviously more expensive items should still have the best profits as it is the most risky, trading wise, to fill up with a bunch of expensive items as opposed to dirt cheap ones, but the difference should not be as substantial as it is now completely voiding the vast majority of commodities.

Also actual trade data ould be nice. You buy it or visit the station yourself and you will be able to see all the info about buying and selling between the 2 stations you want, profit per ton included. Please get rid of the need for practically necessary 3rd party trade tools and make one in the game.

Truth. De economy simulator needin luv. Long time before, talk of players cornering markets an takin advantage of in-game events like wars. Den realty kicked in and dis shunted to Bulletin Boards - de ED quick-fix 'content' source. Aal de ideas, very ickle of de desired execution! :D

I enjoy trading in other games but not ED, which is why I did it for a while and stopped doing it and would gladly do some trading again if it was overhauled. To me ED's trading isn't trading, it's way, way too abstracted and you have very little interaction with the markets. You are more of a goods transporter than a trader. Traders manipulate and analyse the markets, research markets to expand and exploit in. A lot of space games do this fairly well but ED really doesn't at all. To me trading is what you see in the X series or EVE for example, not what we currently have because you do practically no trading as a trader in Elite regarding other areas of trading. Buying low and selling high isn't the pinnacle or main point of trading but ED thinks it is and that's all you do in ED, buy low, move to a place to sell high. Repeat. No real market interaction. It's not even competitive in this regard.

Scud, I wish you were right. Unfortunately ;) I think you are not. I have a feeling that most of us are just driving a truck. Most of us are just waiting the moment that FD balances the economy. We believe that this madness wont last forever and the game turns to amazing. When they do that, we start to do something else.
Yes yes, when you are new you may have romantic ideas what is fun and cool, but after 2 months, if you are still in game, you definitely turn to be one of "us". If not, try 3rd and 4th month, or you are a family guy who never plays more than 1h per day.

...

Hobblygobbly. I agree. The truth is that the trade was copied from the old Elite, directly. Also the old Elite had the same economical issues. I suppose someone at some point should have told them that the gamers in 2015 are expecting a bit more.

lol no worries -aal gud mon! Truth bein I like drivin mi truck! An mi welcome more tools lettin us do more tings, an more encounters. Today? Wi needin a little more toys in de toy box - an tools to be makin new games witin games. Here be hopin! :D

I see this thread hasn't progressed very far.

Seems to be an argument over where the line in the sand on how many millions is too many

I thought the premise of the thread was to encourage debate on ideas on how to diversity trade so it isn't just find the most profitable trade route and run it until you can trade no more.
Performance enhancers one was, Beryllium the other add infinitum.

I thought we would be banding around ideas like, bring in precursor to goods would get you a trade discount on the good.
So you want to earn a better price on your Beryllium - bring in Food and Consumer goods for the Refinery workers, Advanced Catalyzers and Resonating Separators for the actual refinery work.
.
