What's happened to the ring systems?! They look terrible!!

It's seems every major patch, I end up posting about how the Ring systems get a graphical downgrade. This has happened consistently since late Beta. (For some reason I'm also the only one that seems to care all that much about this. :D )

So what gives? The ring systems look pretty awful in my screenshots above. I'm just heading out to check some ice ones...

EDIT: As a comparison here is how they looked in Alpha. And to clarify, I'm not comparing the close up details of the asteroids themselves...I'm actually comparing the level of detail in the distance. Look at how they used to transition into the distance compared to now. In this screenshot it's only in the far distance that the LOD starts having issues...

Totally agree, posted same ages ago.. good pix examples. Have some rep+1 in hope your post gets some response unlike all the others

By the way, that alpha 4.0 gas giant looks great. Much more going on there than the bands of colour we have now.

I wonder why they made them look more bland.

edit: right, I missed that. Ignore me.

And the best thing about it? Well the Procedural Generator for gas giants has changing weather patterns, Unlike the hand crafted dahan you're talking about. This means those cloud tops are not static and future proofs the game when we'll be able to fly through those clouds!

They're not static? I've always assumed they were. I've dropped out of SC in the safety zone above a good few gas giants and have never seen any change or movement in the cloud formations.

The atmosphere's on gas giants are very much animated indeed.

I made a time-lapse video a long time back. The clouds do move, but they are very, very slow. I will make a new video of them I think...

Very slow for a good reason lol, I mean you don't expect Cyclones, typhoons and hurricanes to hit land in a couple of minutes?

On gas giants, there are Cyclones and cloud tops alone the size of the whole earth.

On other gas giants, there are cyclones the size of other gas giants, I'd fully expect these clouds to move really slowly XDDD

Just so. :)

Need to record the planets for quite a length of time, and then substantially speed it up just to show it in effect. :)

... relative to the planet overall. If you were down in there, the winds would be literally unimaginable. :)

I hope that when FD does planetary landing they correctly simulate your sudden horrific near-instant death if you try to land near one of those cyclone eye-walls.

All those screenshots were taken after 1.3 was installed.

Beautiful shots, IMS!!

I wanna hear the wind sheer too and the lightning blasting between the clouds :D

From what I can tell, all graphical aspects of the game are downgraded continuously and have been since late beta. I suppose they don't want the console to pc gap to be too obvious?

I cry constantly about the pop up at the letterbox. Created a few tickets along the way, and get the standard "we're looking at it" reply. At the beginning of beta I could see the insides of stations from "miles" out, now it pops up as I approach the toast rack.

Conformity rules supreme. Sadly. Wouldn't want to upset the console market. I understand (sort of) from a financial point of view, and FD have proven their shrewdness in this area many times.

Well that probably explains it then. The longest I've sat and watched them is for about 5 minutes, just to see if I could detect any change.

I suspect it's got more to do with them trying to get a handle on the stuttering that seems to be affecting some players.

Very nice, the Clipper is such a beautiful ship. I shall definitely get one when I'm back from my next trip, and a Courier as well to make the set.

Well I'm glad it's not just me. But I really don't think I want to go check what these look like in the Rift. The Rings were the most stunning things to see in the Rift once upon a time. :(

If that is there intent, it would seem they are succeeding. No one really seems to be making any complaints about it.

They distant asteroids look worse in the rift as they now shimmer/flicker. So yes, it doesn't look pretty.

Get used to it guys... Now they are just downgrading the graphics to a xbone level... Next up is the Nintendo DS... :p

It would be really nice to have a dev input on this. Considering that for many of us, a big part of enjoying the game lies in the sceneries, it's quite an issue. Bug or intended? Can we have an answer, pretty please?
