What's happened to the ring systems?! They look terrible!!

I thought it was my imagination but the complexity and LOD does seem down from previous builds.

Get used to it guys... Now they are just downgrading the graphics to a xbone level... Next up is the Nintendo DS... :p

I remember watching that trailer for PP and as great as it was the LOD was dreadful in the asteroid fields. Take a look at the capital ship too. ;)

I think I found how to change it back, You need to edit this line at the bottom of the graphicsconfiguration.xml

<RingFogQuality>3</RingFogQuality> It's set to 1 as standard (I run everything maxed out and it was still 1). I changed it to 3 which I THINK corrosponds with "ultra". I now have fog (and lag) in the HiRES at TZ A.

Really? If this is true then they actually don't trust us 'feeble mortals' with graphics settings.

So basically what you'e saying is they had problems with stutter and started to literally turn off and hide graphic settings. If that's true...just wow.

I don't know if that's what they've done or not, I am uploading some screenshots now.

I personally think it looks better with less fog too.

Perhaps a bandaid for a technical issue they have yet to resolve? I'm no expert on the 3d pipeline but nor am I a lay person but strikes me as a bottleneck elsewhere in the code.. Hard to say without seeing the details.

.. and indeed don't anyone here think it's 'tinfoil hat' material this 'platform parity' thing.

You may not realise this, but on Far Cry 4 they explicitly said they wanted platform parity.

It IS considered (stupidly) by developers as a marketing tool, in order to appease, as they think, the least powerful platforms out there so they don't feel 'left out' or whatever ridiculous rationale they have behind doing it.

I wouldn't imagine this is a case of that here, as said above developers have no reason just to not be public about it. But just don't completely dismiss it as nonsense, something like this isn't impossible.

Thing is there were plenty of rings that didn't have fog. So if people didn't like fog they could go to those rings.

Where as people that did like fog could go find rings with fog. Everyone is happy.

But if the fog remains missing - then it is a very different story.

This opinion doesn't change the fact that the dust is both, more realistic and making the LOD meshes less obvious.
The amount can be argued about, however there needs to be SOME.

Not sure if the dust is more realistic or not. Especially considering it stays when ships move through it repeatedly.

Fog is most certainly still in the game, when these images upload I will show you.

The fog is only there to hide the bad LOD. Without the fog the rings look very bad in VR, as you see these awful 2D sprite objects hanging in the distance.

You know the sad thing is many games these days arent taking full advantage of PC hardware. 8GB RAM is pretty standard yet developers try to make games as accessible as they can for low end hardware. I know the devs say it makes no difference but why are we still burdening under a 32 bit client? Not sure I buy the argument.

I am using a glorified potato as a computer so I am glad rings don't kill my framerate anymore, but certainly people should have the option? Fog has no incidence on gameplay in this game, so certainly you should be able to chose whether to use it or not.

Every RES site and Asteroid Belt has become absurdly dark, even with a Sun right next to it.

It's bad enough having to abandon some sites because of "immersive shade" as planets and such rotate around their suns; but even in direct light they look like its 4 am everywhere.

This doesn't change the fog levels in Zaonce. Looks like it has been removed from there entirely.

The missing fog in Zaonce might be due to procedural generation taking over?
