"working on something secret for PC and Mac"

Seriously guys, lay off the speculation :) I can almost guarantee you aint even close....As I stated beforehand, its NO COINCIDENCE that this has dropped shortly after they got a verbal shafting from the playerbase (PC-wise that is).......IF it was that uber there would be teasers/art etc etc but I very much doubt it will be anything earth shattering as they STILL need to generate revenue and will be keeping the good stuff to sell :)

Just want to point out that they have released just as many updates (at the same times) as last year.

Alpha 1 = First release
Alpha 2 = ED 1.1
Alpha 3 = ED 1.2
Alpha 4 / Premium Beta 1 (same build) = ED 1.3
Premium Beta 2 = the upcoming CQC for XBox
Beta 1 (end of May, beginning of August) = We don't know yet, probably 1.4.

True about the big updates yes, I was there also restarting my save again and again :p fun times!

But gamescom will be an announcement only... I don't think we'll be getting something straight away. So even more waiting.
It just feels like many other games I've played before that this will slowly die off if they don't pick up the pace.
And as they say a bigger team... so why not quicker updates? (I also know this doesn't always work that way)

But again, I'm crossing my fingers that I'm totally wrong but yet I fear that my experience with other games will win this one. :(

Just leaked... they've decided to let PC/Mac users access the pilot's touchscreen for in flight trade data. Sample data screen as seen below...

FD has always taken their own pace and rushing them really won't work. There's no point to get worked up about ED 'losing momentum'. It has steady sales. It has steady updates. Yes, there are bugs. Yes, there are mistakes. Yes, I want moar reveleals. However I hardly find doom and gloom scenario appearing.

Amen. But unfortunately none of those are as 'sexy' to the public at large as a nice, big, paid expansion. Hopefully, if there are more people working on Elite than ever before stuff is going on in parallel, rather than being diverted from the core game.
Yes, with regards to just Elite Dangerous alone, they'll have a team working on the main game (1), a team working on bug fixes (2), a team working on the next update (3), a team working on the EVA expansion (that many wrongly call the FPS expansion) (4) and a team working on the Seamless Planetary Landings expansion (5) that's 5 teams I can name offhand.

As gets said before every major gaming event Frontier go to, they hold info back from us to have something to reveal at the event. The problem is (in my opinion) that we the community, feel this is not fair and that we want constant info (isn't that what the newsletter is supposed to be for?) while at the same time expecting Frontier to have something good to reveal at whatever event is next.

Well, so was E3...Powerplay was released before the conference...

No, this doesn't mean the same thing applies later for Gamescon necessarily. I'm just pointing out that having an announcement there (possibly about a major paid expansion) doesn't automatically exclude other things being released before.

And no, I'm not saying that will happen either. ;)

That's true but the first payed expansion will probably be announced some time before it's release so to get hype and preorder sales. Payed expansion release will probably be around the major sales periods like the Christmas holidays. So end of this year or early 2016?

On the short term I'm thinking/hoping more in the line of the still missing ships that some of us should be getting or fleshing out powerplay/universe some more. This followed by the expansion news at gamescom with it's release like I said around christmas.

But again I must point out this is just my personal opinion and pure speculation. Speculation that can be avoided with more newsletter/devupdate content.

That's what I'm saying...GamesCon (or PAX Prime the same month) is a great time to announce the expansion that later get released around Christmas.

That doesn't mean core updates will stop complete for the next 6 months though. So there are probably more of that to come in early autumn IMO.

We will see. I would rather see the payed expansion (or at least the beta) hit right after the summer period and not at the end of the year when other top game releases are coming. And personally not being a fan of the upcoming star citizen I don't know when it's exactly coming, but that is a direct (genre) contender for Elite so they should make sure the expansion is rock solid released on time.

But I'm sure people at FD know this better then I do!

Again opinion blah blah not facts blah blah. :)

p.s. Thanks Tinman for an actual open discussion without dirt throwing :) It's appreciated!

Great thanks. In my view id rather they did this first before landings and thargoids. This would compliment multi-tiered missions as well I would imagine.

Well, the nice thing about this is they can do both; planet landings and Tier 2 NPC's. And of course we're basing our thinking on a 'tidbit'; but their development method has been explained....

Probably be passenger missions at best.

Which'll be in essence identical to any other cargo carrying mission-- only you have to fit seats in the back instead of cargo racks.

This is exactly what I think, I'm struggling to see how it adds any real depth or longevity. If people want this so badly buy a ton of fish and call them passengers.

Stand by for action! ... Anything can happen in the next half... year.

(Some of you will get that, some of you won't. :D)

I now have the sound of tom tom drums in my head...thanks :)

EDIT: Just one percent of Anderson's imagination would totally transform ED

Then why passenger missions aren't implemented?

Because it requires to:
1) having NPC dialogs
2) having 2nd tier NPCs to dynamically change your transportation missions.

If they wanted to implement them similar to regular cargo, it would have been done several months ago.
