Oculus PC SDK 0.6.0.1 Beta

Hi Anyone tried this yet?

New Features
  • Added queue ahead. Queue ahead improves CPU and GPU parallelism and increases the amount of time that the GPU has to process frames. For more information, see Queue Ahead.
  • Added the Debug HUD, which provides useful information while using the HUD. For more information, see Performance Head-Up Display. To enable it in OculusWorldDemo, press F11.
  • Added two samples:

ORT (Direct Quad)—verifies and demonstrates direct quads.
ORT (Performance HUD)—demonstrates the performance HUD.Added additional menu options to OculusWorldDemo.

Known Issues
  • Pre-Kepler NVidia GPUs might return "No display attached to compositor" or "SubmitLayers failed" errors, which can result in a black screen for some applications.
  • NVidia GTX 600 GPUs and later use the Kepler or Maxwell architectures. Some Intel GPUs might return "No display attached to compositor" or "SubmitLayers failed" errors, which can result in a black screen for some applications.
  • Standard RGB (sRGB) is not properly supported.
  • Timeout Detection Recovery (TDR) is not properly supported.
  • Windows 10 is not yet supported.
  • Extended mode does not currently work with AMD GPUs due to issues in the AMD drivers.
  • For NVidia GPUs, please use driver version 350.12. The latest NVidia driver is unstable with the runtime.

Looks like to try it I'll have to downgrade my NVidia driver :-(

So many pre-requisites. I don't think I'll bother. Do Jupiter and Saturn need to be aligned too?

no one has mentioned Elite over on the forums BUT many are saying this is the best driver release yet, with better performance, better compatiibility compared to 6.0 AND at least 1 person saying better clarity.

Upgraded to 0.6.0.1 today and Elite works well in Direct Mode. I also tried the latest Nvidia driver (353.30) and I didn't have any problems. There is still slight jutter in supercruise, but overall, it's much better than 0.5.0.1 + extended desktop.

Ok, so I never installed SDK 0.6.0.0 and jumped directly to those new 0.6.0.1, downgrading also my NV Drivers to recommended 350.12 (GTA V ones).

Only tested as usually using extended: so far, so good! no problem at all with ED, I don't see any improvement, but nothing is less performing, so all is perfect :)

I tried also some demos and all worked fine BUT the one, the very first one I use to launch each time somebody need to discover VR and Oculus : The desktop in configuration tools :( This one have a big lag regularly each second, whatever I tried (direct or extended). That's sad as it's always the first step of the Start Tour I do for newbies.

Mainly, as ED work, I'm happy! :)

Let's try in direct mode too, I never did it.

Edit: So I just tried, and the game crash with a nice window saying it stopped to work, we are sorry, bla bla blah do you want to send report (I didn't ) etc. it was even before camera tracking initialization (no blue light on it) Do you have to modify something in game option before trying the Direct Mode? I'm thinking the Oculus choice and/or Primary/secondary display choice.

Try reconfiguring to your primary monitor in graphics option first so that you start the game like any desktop environment using your primary display. Deselect the rift and restart the game. Go back into graphics options and make sure you are at 1920x1080. Reselect rift... apply... save and exit. When you log back into the game it should activate the rift. I had to start and shutdown the game twice to get things working better. I did the whole Display Driver Unistaller to clear out all previous Nvidia files and then reinstalled with the 350.12 drivers as suggested by Oculus. I think you may have confused the game programming without resetting to a more default (ish) state before trying Direct Mode.

The only problem I saw was that low persistence was not working (i.e. the screens flickering.... primary monitor is at 75 hz at 1920x1080). Anyone know if this is normal?... this is the first time I actually have gotten Direct Mode to work period (extended has always been good). Other than the flickering.... game was smooth at in-game 1.5DSR on my 970s in SLI.

ED was working great in Extended mode though at max settings up to 1.5DSR (I use out of game Manual custom resolutions).

Hi, can you just explain bit more your first sentence please ? Do you mean to set the Rift as Primary monitor ? Or leave as Secondary ?

I used to run extended with Rift as Primary monitor and have multiple monitor selection from within the nvidia display tool set so that if I turn my Rift off the monitor came on as Primary but as soon as I turn the Rift On again the monitor would turn off and Rift became Primary.

Is that still possible and preferred way to run ELite because it always gave me the smoothest experience with SLi 970's but I haven't played since last year.

How do you get Direct mode to work well?

I put it in DM, switch on and get flickering str8 away.

In the graphics options, I only have the only to go up to 60hz refresh and 75hz is not available.

In the game it self, massive flickering etc....

Care to share a screenie of your graphics options?

Cheers

As a suggestion, it may be locking to your main monitors native refresh rate when in direct mode.
You might have to alter the resolution of your monitor till you get to a resolution that allows your monitor to run run at 75Hz

Direct mode is worse for performance than extended - even if you match refresh rates. The devleopers of ED need to code the game to take advantage of direct mode.

RAMJET, Basically you want to deconfigure the game for rift and set ED for a regular monitor as primary display device with no VR and save and exit the game. Put the rift back in direct mode and then restart the game. You will then be able to switch to the rift in graphics options.

I verified what u saw last night by having the rift setup as primary or secondary display device in extended mode. I switched the rift to direct mode and started the game resulting in a crash. Resetting the rift to extended and restarting the game will clear the logjam. I really think that the problem is a conflict regarding ED selecting the right monitor in the programming and the crash is the result of an unexpected error during load up of the game.

Direct mode works guys. Not as good as extended though but it is a far much better experience. If the rift would just work with SLI cards in direct mode without the flickering/flashing screens then it may actually be the better alternative with the plug n play consumer.

Direct mode is a worse experience than extended due to the amount of movement lag it intrioduces at equivalent quality settings to extended mode. There is nothing else that is special about either experience.

I upgraded to 0.6.0.1 with the latest Nvidia driver 353.30 and extended mode works well for me.

I tried direct mode, I however really struggled to get it into 75Hz (monitor is a 60hz, so fudged it in the Nvidia control panel and then changing options and restarting ) and even when I had (at least that what Elite graphics options said) I had lots of blurry/judder when I moved my head.

i just tried Extended Mode ( always played in Direct Mode ) and have to say that the Quality is another level Worse then in Extended. even bumping up to DSR 2.0 is still not as clear or detailed as in direct mode. the only good thing is its a " little " bit smoother when moving head.

What sort of setup are you running? Might give direct mode a shot on the new sdk.

edit: scratch that after tweaking yesterday i got my pc to run this game at decent graphics and "bearable fps and stutter" im just asking for trouble trying to tweak this more.

in saying that still getting v low fps in SC and unfortunately in RES sites it drops below 75 fps sometimes. Not really a problem...slightly bigger problem is that in RES sites when theres lots of ships sometimes there will be screen freezes for a couple of seconds....hrmmm
