"working on something secret for PC and Mac"

Quite a few people (including myself) highlighted the disconnection from the rest of the game as the main issue with powerplay on the first day of the 1.3 beta. Personally I think the simplest way around this now would be to have the powerplay faction spawn a related minor faction in each of their controlled and exploited systems. This would enable you to actually, fully take over enemy/neutral systems using the pre 1.3 mechanics. These factions would give out missions (which could have additional powerplay related flavour and rewards) and you could get benefits for the minor faction being the controlling faction of a system (such as reduced overheads), this would also give another way to undermine a faction by pushing a non-aligned minor faction etc.

I'm kind of thinking something like this might actually be the plan...however hooking PowerPlay straight into the on day one is a bit risky since it needs to be balanced and bug fixed quite a bit before...otherwise it could potentially make the entire fall over due to unforeseen consequences.

We all know it will most likely be another form of senseless grind.

And we also all know that nobody from Frontier will comment on this. So...

If it is that being announced, in favour of fundamental (long overdue) core game enhancements, I'll quite honestly give up all hope for the game.

I'm with Toyah on this. Here's hoping no FPS "planetary landings" and "big game hunting" or whatever bling and fluff until and after they tweak and polish up the fundamentals. No more grind FD. Give us adventure!

The entire is already falling over due to unforeseen consequences, don't see how making PP part of the game, as opposed to an addon board game updated every week based on a "timer", could possibly make it any worse.

When you compartmentalise on top of an already flawed system everything that follows will be flawed too. Unfortunately, FD won't just come out and say that their P2P technology won't allow they "vision" the had in mind. That's why so many people want the base game fixed, if you build on top of a crumbling foundation guess what happens?

It's impossible to deliver the promised mansion by tacking mobile homes together.

They said that about Babylon 5. That didn't stop the Shadow War happening, the re-occupation of Naan, or indeed the destruction of Centuari Prime.

What use was that? A futile hope. It even took a couple of seasons for Garabaldi to accept his hair loss, and just do the honourable thing of shaving it off completely.

They blew it up in the end as well.

But in contrary slightly empowered. We, the PC players, forced the issue with Arkham Knight, and made them retract it to fix it up.

I'm frankly edging torwards heresy in breaking my former joint-allegiance mindset of ED and SZ, and aligning more and more with just SZ.

The horizon is getting bleaker, as far as I see it.

AK is console game.
ED is PC game.

Fun thing will be when the patches dry up, because certification.
Tears depository required, just saying.
Then, console hate on forums...

If only they had some kind of beta access to get all the bugs ironed out before it hit live servers.....oh wait....

It's Lady Kahina right?Right?Right?!

Wish they'd stop this "something amazing is just around the corner" routine ... it probably isn't going to be that great, if past experience is anything to go by

I agree, but not because it is probably not going to be that great.
I agree because there will always be complainers, and whiners, even if FD would somehow be able to implement each and everyone's special wishes.
Those that revel in nonconstructive negativity and diatribe will always find something to complain about, endlessly and incessantly.

From the newsletter:-
The Elite: Dangerous team is bigger than ever, and the majority are working on something secret for PC and Mac. It's not quite ready for the world just yet, but we'll be able to tell you more at Gamescom. Believe us: we can hardly wait.

P2P that is used for player to player interactions has really nothing to do with the background sim. Trade, missions, the economy, PP, news, exploration data, system stats and so on runs from their servers already. If you play SOLO there is really no P2P happening, but you are still interacting with all these systems on their servers.

If you build an argument on top of a crumbling foundation guess what happens?

BUG FIXES, make it happen FDev!
Core existing features development, make it happen FDev!

If they say planetary landing or any crap expansion I give up on the game.

Because all players are tied to P2P whether they are in solo or open, we all share the same galaxy of which data is reliant on all those P2P connections no matter what "mode" you play in, and THEN FD updates the data every so often. It's a shared database that depends on P2P data for solo and open. P2P absolutely affects solo and , indeed you have to wait for all that P2P data to come in before your solo game gets updated galaxy data sent to it from Amazon servers. While you personally may not play in open and thereby use a P2P connection, you are most certainly affected and reliant on those people that do. Otherwise there'd be no reason for not having an offline mode would there? No, no there wouldn't.

Your foundation just collapsed.

I'm sorry, but you really don't know what you are talking about.

Everything in regards to what I previously mentioned (and more) is handled by dedicated central servers. There is no P2P in those cases.

P2P is only used when connecting to other players so you can see them and interact with them (with the help of a central matchmaking server).
