High Waking.

Hi,

Just a very quick question.

I have seen the term High Waking, can someone tell me what that is exactly please.:S

It refers to selecting another system and hyperspace jumping - it also ignores masslock unlike frameshift drive.

Hi,

Thanks very much for the replies.

I didn't realise that selecting another system would avoid a mass lock.)

Although isn't that a bug?

You learn something every day.

Not a bug; it's a lifesaving escape method. It's annoying to be bumped out of a system but it's way cheaper than rebuy, and with enough quick system hops you can have a great chance to escape even a dedicated hunter.

You're far less likely to get chased to another system because not many players/NPCs carry a frameshift wake scanner. To chase you they need to use the FWS on the hi wake, which feeds the jump location into their nav and then they jump to follow you.

As the others said, a hyperspace jump doesn't suffer mass slowdown. A supercruise jump gets slowed down by the mass of the ships.

On the other hand I'm reconsidering my lack of FSW scanner, now they finally work in Supercruise. :)

If you're a trader, high-wake twice at least if you're getting chased by a NPC - they hunt you and will get you on your next jump if you dilly-dally about.

I bought one to try this. Failed to work in super cruise at any distance from the wake and sold it again. Only tried it on three wakes so not sure if it ever works, but I moved from very far are away to within dropping distance if it were a low wake and was never able to scan.
