walking around my cockpit

Just got my rift last week... wow.

I was already absolutely amazed with how real it feels but it wasn't until the end of my first session that I got the most amazing sense of immersion. I had been playing for a while and felt like stretching my legs, so I did what I would normally do... but forgot to take the rift off...

...I stood up.

Sounds silly but I wasn't prepared for how real it would feel as I stood up in my eagle. So I tested things a little further, and walked into the hallway behind the pilots seat (thank god for the long cable on the rift!). Must have spent half an hour just walking from one side of the cockpit to the other, peering out of the canopy ay nearby asteroids as the ship gently rolled, saturn massive in the distance.

I had tried a dk1 in the past, but the addition of positional tracking to the dk2 has made things so much more real!

Hey Mulbin,
I tried this yesterday in my Asp, amazing, until I went to sit back down again. Very strange climbing into a chair that's not there!

I suggest than when you play ED in your cockpit you use a real chair to be more comfortable, the virtual one is low quality, or I'm too heavy perhaps, I always end on the ground ;)

I currently have my computer set up in the small dining area at the end of our kitchen, which happens to be just the right shape for the interior of an eagle. After the first attempt things went much smoother without the invisible cat food bowl.

Sadly though, tried this today after a windows re-install and I now have "judder" problems so not getting the sightseeing in as much as I'd like.

that model (thanks) is a seat from my rock crawler mounted on a frame I built in my garage. It was pretty cheap to build if you have a mig. all the steel was purchased from home depot for about $90. PM me for specs if you want to build your own :) P.s.. that seat is only $150 new from summit racing. don't forget a butt kicker.

New discovery for even more impressive standing / walking!

ED supports multiple controllers, so you can have your joystick setup for sitting, and a gamepad (preferably wireless) to allow ship control while walking around.

I use both, but why wireless the xbox controller cable it roughly the same length as the DK2s one.
