What announcements would kill this game.

There is a lot of despondency on the forums over the last few days as we are obviously getting over the anger stage of where this game is going and starting to accept Elite may not be the game we all hoped it would be.

Here is my question, what serious announcement could FD make that would be the last nail in the coffin for you? and why?

Lets keep away from the very unlikely events like EA buying FD or the such.

Mine would be announcing Plantary Landings as the next update, because it shows they don't realise the serious issues with the space game and that creating these diversions isn't working, I think CQC and PP have shown people need more than 'nice diversions', we need depth

To fix it for me they would announce NPC audio dialogue (even computer generated), seriously sort out the missions, wouldn't have an issue with walking in ships if it was included with other things

Thoughts?

KILL it....... short of them turning the servers of nothing for me, as I can live with what we have now.

but absolutely crush me and make me retire the game to just another game in my collection that I dabble with......... a bunch of things but in terms of screwing me over personally as it would mean i could not play it half of the time... probably dropping the 3 modes and switching between them

switching between them? please explain?

If they aren't going to massively change the underlying network architecture and make this game a true MMO, then they need to double-down on story telling. Go the SWTOR route and build great single-player experiences, storylines, etc., that maybe in parts could be shared in a group but for the most part is about singleplayer directed content.

Right now they're in a netherworld - they've implemented powerplay which is about players making an impact on the galaxy's political system, but then the underlying game mechanics don't do things like allow coordinated operations, big battles, or preventing undermining activities. So instead of being awesome at either singleplayer or massive multiplayer stuff, it's below average in both.

For me, if I don't hear anything about improvements in multiplayer collaboration, and I'm thinking specifically of power-chat or some other system to bring players together within the Power, then that would be something that makes me want to put the game down for a while. To be honest I may already be at that point.

If they try and sell an expansion with the game in this state, it'll be an expansion I won't be purchasing. However, given what has gone before, nothing would surprise me.

"In light of the recent console release, we will be looking at ways to streamline certain gameplay aspects of Elite: Dangerous in the future."

Add scare quotes where appropriate.

You needed to start a new thread for this?
The forum seems to be full of people declaring every little thing the End of the game

If they announce they are closing solo mode that would see me off.

Any more MMO grinding will see me get even more weary of it, but if they add another MMO metagame like powerplay (for example, Thargoid Wars delivering leaflets) would see me walk away from it and wait for another space game.

We need more single player/immersive content. If the next update doesn't add that it'll tell me what I need to know about the game. That's actually fair enough - but if they are going that way they should tell us now so those looking for a more authentic "Elite" experience can part from the game and find something else.

Removing solo would kill the game for me.

Any more overly "online" orientated content would nark me off, no more PvP centric stuff please.

Elite needs more narrative to bring the players INTO the galaxy, Power play sort of helps with fleshing out the galaxy with the characters of power. So defo better missions, more to do in open space like derelicts to explore (alongside an EVA addon!). Basically flesh the game out WAY more and LESS grind MORE fun!

I'm watching a playthrough of Xwing Alliance and those missions are brilliant! Of course I understand a heavily scripted story cannot be shoe horned into an open sandbox like Elite, but the missions could be WAY better.

I think that the next big thing is a big possibility they will be selling it as they keep going on about how these BASIC features are free (like text comms)

A little melodramatic, I don't think they could "kill" the game. I'm hoping that they will announce that all the missing features from the DDA will be included in the next year. I guess I would be very disappointed if they said "None of the DDA stuff will be in the game, yah, boo, sucks to you" but it wouldn't kill the game for me. It might make me play less but I would still play.

ALL of my friends that own the game I know don't play any more, they are clinging onto what they were sold but the game isn't dead in their mind yet, what I am asking is what would kill it for you?

The biggest shock for me was the death of offline mode.
That was just... wow....
Nothing can top that I think.
But I have accepted it for now and understand FD's reasoning behind the decision.
Also there still is a little hope as Braben said he hasn't given up on it completely.

I cannot think of anything else...
Oh wait... Forcing me into open all the time, removing the solo mode would do it I think.

In general my love for this new Elite game is steadily growing.
There are very few games that can give me goosebumps, but a gloomy orange sun lighting up an asteroid field does it all the time, or a sunrise on a strange desert planet with huge icecaps...
This game is a space simmer's dream.

And there is sooo much more to look forward too still.
I think I will never get tired of it.

Oh, the irony.......it was the Open/Solo thing that stopped me playing......around the time they introduced "COMMUNITY" (HAHAHA) Goals............I realised then that the game was broken beyond repair A real life TRUE Catch-22, there is no "win" for FD on this.........
.
They are asking people to compete against players that have the ability to switch modes and just hide..........So in open mode, some poor git is getting his ship blown out from under him trying to run a blockade, yet in Solo, same ship with a different pilot, just strolls to the station, red carpet laid out by the AI all the way..........
.
I have NO desire to play a competitive game that is so laughably broken.........Stopped playing Months ago. I was waiting for Power Play to breathe some new life in to it, but it is more of the same.....Invisible people can come and go as they please and affect the Open play.....it' just ridiculous.......

Can you imagine BattleField 4, where "The Invisible Un-Shootable Man" can take Conquest Flags that count towards a win?
.
How about a racing game, where Open players have to compete against 20 other cars, but the Solo player gets the track to themselves and can just pound out qualifying lap speeds.......and where everyone is competing for the same trophy and the times count equally?.....
.
People have talked themselves in to corners and dug in.....but not me....stand back, take a look, and it is just a terrible way to implement a game..............Open/Solo IS the Killer Announcement, as such, Elite Dangerous is a dead man walking, already........
