What am i missing here?

Hello pilots,

I'm having trouble understanding a local situation here.

Currently i'm in Zeta Microscopii in which the Kumo Crew is trying to expand in. The system is independent and not under Kumo Crew control yet. I'm a member of a opposing faction that is hostile to the Kumo Crew and normally any Kumo would show up as 'Enemy'.
The situation comes up when i'm flying in supercruise and am being interdicted by a Kumo Crew Watch AI not showing as 'Enemy', but still tags me as the enemy.
He quickly shoots down my shields in which i have to respond to save my own ass. The self defense immediately action tags me as 'Wanted' and he won't stop shooting me till i kill him. This gives me an 12.140 Credits bounty in the system. Upon his death i still receive 15 merits for my faction telling me that this AI should have been tagged as 'Enemy' which he was not in the info. Something tells me that he should have been.
The other problem i have is that i get a bounty in this system for a member of a faction that is trying to do a hostile take-over of the system. Shouldn't they actually be happy with me killing him? The system was independent for a reason most likely or is this wishful thinking? Is the current standings system bonkers or am i doing something totally wrong? This just didn't feel right. According to the reaction of the system defense force i'm not permitted to defend myself. it feels like the old standings system and the PP system are both doing their own thing.

If he shot you first, he would have immediately flipped to "Wanted" status. Then you could have shot him with impunity, regardless of pledged power/ local factions.

Sounds like you might have shot him first? (you say he dropped your shiedls though...)

To explain - I had an instance yesterday where I copped a bounty in similar fashion - I think the pirate opened fire, and I saw gunfire everywhere, but he didn't actually hit me (ie not attracting the wanted status). I returned fire, and landed a 6K bounty when I dispatched him. I actually flipped status to "Wanted", not the pirate.

Naturally, I blamed the turrets of course. Bad turrets, no power for a week! :D

This^^^^ Unless you are carrying bounties for the local factions..then he can shoot you and not turn wanted.

- The system is under expansion attempt. Not under control.
- He shot me first and almost my entire shields went down, but didn't receive a 'wanted' status, but i did after i started shooting him.
- No, i was 'Clean', but i was tagged as 'Hostile' due to Kumo's expansion. The problem is that the Kumo Crew isn't an owner yet of this independent system.

The fact that i was tagged as 'Hostile' might have done it, but still he should have been tagged as 'Enemy' to me. The other thing is that the system is still 'Independent' and not under 'Control' so i should not have been 'Hostile'.

So an invasion force of an independent system is helped by local security and shoots down any other faction trying to help them not be invaded. TFW Sir's!

Well, then that's wierd.

Maybe there's some odd interactions between the wanted and hostile/not hostile flags that freaks out under your circumstances.

Suggest seeing if you can repeat the experience (without dying) and log a bug report?

I can't repeat it anymore. The damage is done.

Just now i was attacked by a ship from the 'Enemy' faction Pranav Antal. There was no bounty's, but i didn't receive 15 merits for the kill for some reason.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that when I do undermining against the Feds the ships I have to take down for the merits aren't actually tagged as enemy either.
Instead of a name they are called federal courier or something, with the status:clear.
The combat ships and opposing faction players that fly about however do have the status: enemy.
But killing those doesn't get you any merits.

What ever the case... Killing any of them in there space will get you a bounty on your head.

If the system is being 'exploited' eg in the exploitation range of a control system then that would mean its within Kuhmo Crews power space so you would be the one to gain the bounty for retaliation and they can fire with impunity...

As said above. The Kumo Crew does NOT 'control' the system yet, but is TRYING to 'expand' in it. The system is INDEPENDENT meaning not any faction has control over it. There are Federation stations, but they don't hold the system. It should be neutral to everyone but the Kumo crew that is trying to invade it when you look at it logically.

Stop shooting at the Kumo Crew and opposing our expansions!
That'll do the trick ;)

Jesting aside, have you checked your Crime Reporting option?
If it's set to report crimes against you then it's certainly a bit fishy.
