Booking time off work for Beta release?

So I have already forewarned my boss of the impending Beta release and have got the green light to take the time off when it's ready.

I got some interesting looks when I asked for a week.
"A week for a computer game?"
"This is no ordinary computer game!"

Anyone else booking some well earned "rest" for ED?

I usually only take a day off for a release, although I'm tempted to stretch it to two for Elite Dangerous. It's quite hard to justify playing a game in your time off when there are so many jobs to be done around the house!

Games I've taken a day off for in the past:

  • CoD Black Ops
  • WoW Wrath of the Lich King Expansion
  • GTA 4
  • GTA 5

Never taken a day off for a game... I love playing them and all that, but they're not worth a precious day off work.

I may take a day or two, but not sure yet.. will have to wait and see whats going on at home and work. But definately taking at least a week for the gamma :D

I have 34 days leave every year some people use them for vacations, i use at lest half of them for games every one have there hobbies i guess.

Isn't that what we have weekends for?

Or evenings.

Besides, most of the time these days the first day of launch no one can play because the servers all crash.

This is a good point really. Does anyone know if ED will "Require" online connection / servers to at least play? Is there a totally offline mode?

Don't want another Sim City debacle!

I might take a day around gamma or release, but I like to keep my days off for getting out into the world. Usually to places where you have to dig your own toilet.

Real world stuff is all well and good but this Elite not just any old game. I want to have some proper quality play time without having to worry about family and other distractions.

I don't think any game developer sets out to have release day problems with their servers.

There is an offline mode planned, however.

Sadly, I don't got enough work that time-off is even necessary. In the statistically unlikely event that I'm working when the beta is released, I'll only need to wait a few hours.

I'm starting to sense we are very very different kinds of people.

Apart from liking ED that is :D

Yes but even with the massive resources of say Rockstar Games it can still go horribly wrong at launch.

Obviously with the Beta stages it will be more of a phased approach but I really hope that even if all the servers are down, we'll still be able to play offline unaffected (even if it's a separate commander profile).
